Don't post that offensive term or any similar racist stuff in my thread. That's not cool at all. It's 2019 not 1819. I'm not politically correct and lean hard right but have zero tolerance for stuff that's offensive or potentially offensive to my many good friends of color.

Nothing has changed with racism.
It's still rampant everywhere.
Using of the term is the issue. It has no place being used regardless of who he was referring too. The term is offensive.

Lets get back on track..if you go with a 427ci dont use TFS 255 LS3 heads. I been viewing a thread and i wasnt impressed with them at all. They only made 64Xhp on a 12.1 compression ratio 427ci motor. Be better off going straight to a LS7 head or a aftermarket cathedral.

While kicking this all build around, .020 over is the stated max for a LS2 but is there really much risk going .030 over? Or maybe a better way to say it is how often are the liners straight enough without shift to go 4.030? Will sonic check show for sure?
My block has to go .010 over to clean up if doing the stroker. I've read of a few rare LS2's going to 4.065 even.
What's y'alls experience and impression?

Wow I bet someone wasn't happy with that. Were the heads straight out of the box as cast? I've heard before the TFS 255 LS3 was underwhelming but that's looking like proof. If that's what they did on a 427, probably not very desirable on a 376, 388, 400 or 402.

It's a common thing to do.
You can bore them more but then you risk strength and that's something I would do.
.030 is the max safe overbore.
Those TFS heads seem make less power than GM LS3 heads.
I won't touch any aftermarket LS3 head.
I would either use an LS7 or a high end cathedral

You won't leave much on the table and without a 4.065 bore the ls3 heads aren't optimal anyways. Too much valve shrouding, a good set of cathedrals will do better for a street car.

Plus fitting a set of higher ratio rockers helps too.
This shrouding is very exaggerated.
You would be hard pressed to tell the difference.
I am using a new block for my next build.
I will either use an ls9 or dart aluminium block.
A lot of talk about you have to rev a big bore motor vs a stroker motor to make the power. That's not totally true. Bigger CID is bigger CID, it will make more torque and power across the range, all else being equal. Sure, the stroker crank gives you a few more cubes, but I guarantee the big bore has substantially higher hp per cube and more ultimate potential. Again, it sure is nice to have all the cylinder head options in the world vs trying to figure out what works on a 4.00 bore, which basically comes down to a cathedral or small bore LS7 if you want to rev it. More to think about, everytime GM wanted to make more power w/ a LS they just kept making the bore bigger w/ same stroke until they went all the way w/ the LS7. The more you read, I really think Jake knows his $hit. Maybe techws6 will chime in, as well.

Being on a larger bore might make a few more ponies vs a 4.030 but the difference isn't huge.
However i will ask my builder this question tomorrow.
He will be able to give me facts.
The only way to know for sure is to test back to back, but I will throw my opinion up and say the LS3 head will run way better on 4.125 bore vs even the stock 4.065. I think that's been proven at least once, I would think. At this point it's a valve shrouding issue waiting to be solved. Will the LS3 heads run better on any bore w/ a stroker crank, of course. It's a huge head, adding CID will make it work better., but still not optimize it. Besides, the topic is which will work better for $$$, crank or bore. I think the answer is hands down bore, just for the options it opens and the strength it gives the block.

I have no data myself but by engine builder has been building LS's since the late 1990's when they were first released.
He has done hundreds of these over the years and is the primary engine he builds.
I will find out and post his response here.
