2007 5.3L LC9 Oil Pressure issue(s)
Hello everybody. I have spent hours researching and reading forum postings on oil pressure issues, but I am still having issues.
The motor in question is in a 2007 Avalanche. The dash gauge indicates about 22-25psi cold at idle, and about 5-10psi warm, at idle. At 1500-2000 rpm it shows about 18-20psi, again warm engine.
Using a mechanical gauge, I took two measurements:
The front left side of the block at the oil galley plug: 60 psi cold
The back of the block, on top where the pressure sending unit is: 20-25 psi cold.
I have changed the oil filter, oil pan gasket, valley cover gasket, pressure relief valve in the oil pan, and have had the main bearing clearances re-checked. The last item done was to replace the oil pressure relief valve in the oil pan, at which time I replaced the pan gasket also.
I'm leaning towards a wiped cam bearing (or several), but I have no way of verifying without pulling and disassembling this motor....again.
Just looking for advice/sanity check.
Thanks,
Scott

If you have a bearing going south, your oil filter will let you know. Buy an oil filter cutting tool ($42ish from summit) and inspect. I use the tool to inspect every filter I change, just for peace of mind. It’s worth the purchase.
