Default L96 Cam Selection Help

Hey folks, first time poster here - hope I'm in the right spot!

I'm planning a L96 (out of a 2015 Express Van) swap going into a 71 Chevy Suburban that will be used for daily driving therefore drivability is very important. I want it to sound like a hot rod, have some grunt/pep, but still be reliable on the street. I plan to run a Holley single plane intake , Holley mid-mount serpentine system, Vintage Air A/C and power brakes. I'm assuming a factory torque converter came with the swap (long story), but am not sure what gears are in the rear end.

After talking with a Comp they recommended the following cam:
XFI RPM HI-LIFT 218/232 Hydraulic Roller Cam for GM LS GEN IV w/ VVT
along with phaser and springs. Comp recommended their springs and push rods, but I'm likely going to get a set of both from Brian Tooley Racing. Do you think this will work well with the combo I described? As a reminder, this is going in a Suburban so I'm not trying to autocross it or anything, just want it to sound awesome, have some guts and be reliable.

Are you keeping VVT? If so that setup will not work as you will need the stock ECM, which is DBW, and needs that input to function correctly. You need the stock throttle body or one made for DBW

Yes, I plan to keep the VVT if at all possible as I think its benefits work well for how I intend to use the Suburban. I have both the stock throttle body and ECM. There's an adapter that allows you to keep the stock DBW throttle body and give it the 4-barrel carb look. I will have to switch a speed density tune though.

You're going to prefer the long runner factory intake for the torque and the behavior you're looking for. That cam p/n is Cca-189-402-13. The one that's one step milder is CCA-189-401-13 214/228 114 .559/.571 and would hit the converter a little better and you can set the idle where you want to get a bit of chop.

If it ends up that you want to stick with a single plane and are willing to jettison VVT all together, check out the line of Summit Pro LS truck cams, and we'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
