Default How to check bottom end

I have the cylinder head off my LS what can I do to check the bottom end while I have it off. I don't want to take the oil pan off if I can help it but I would like a way to find out the bottom end is ok.

No one posted so here's a go @ it.

Drain the oil pan and you'd need a tool such as or like they use to do a colonoscopy or tracheoscopy. Surgical technician tools....been there done that.

Drain and cut open the filter, then inspect the pleats for metal debris.

Ok that's what I'll do the reason for pulling the engine apart is I have a stuck valve and it bent a push rod I don't think the pushrod wore the push rod guide but if it did would I see the material from that in the filter?

If you know the bottom end was good prior to the "stuck valve" its likely still good. Sounds like both heads should go to the machine shop for a going over. I would be concerned about the lifter and possibly even cam lobe involved here. Pushrod may be the only thing damaged but other damage is possible.
As suggested check oil and filter for metal. While you have the heads off turn the engine over and see how it feels. If there is a problem you might be able to tell. The only way to know for sure how the bearings are is to take it apart and see.

Agree with what’s been suggested so far. Also, get a visual on piston tops and deck surfaces for damage. And rotate the engine and get a look at cylinder bore condition.

I'm planning on doing a cam swap while I have it apart and I will definitely be sending the heads to the shop. I was wanting to make sure the bottom end doesn't need anything before I spend the money for the top end. Thanks for the suggestions guys I will post my findings.

I got the filter off and to my eye everything looks good but I figured I'd post it and see what you guys think.

This is what I able to pick up with a magnet.

This is the filter media. If you guys think you need better pictures of it let me know.
