If you were going to build a NA motor for a G8 what would you start with?

Ahh I was thinking 140+mph.. for 125 you may as well get a little cam and slap a used LSA on the stock engine and still trap 130+. Cam alone can still trap 120, so really comes down to how much you want to spend on the chassis and traction.

5.3 bolts up like any other LS, generally turbo kits on these platforms are DIY deals. Theres a ton of room once you sort it out. That said I’d take a DIY turbo setup over any blower setup, just me though. You see guys spend thousands more for 2.3 maggies, f1 prochargers, etc and they all perform about as well as a 76mm turbo. Heck most dont outperform $500 knockoff turbos, just is what it is. Btw my stock 5.3 engine 76mm turbo ran mid 9’s in a G8. Engine was $500, turbo wasn't much more, fuel system was about the most expensive thing on the car.
I'd love a single turbo G8 but the time it would take and fabrication I simply don't have time or space to do it.

Back on topic, the 5.3 seems to be a good option for a cheap motor. Is this the case or is there any benefits a 5.3 would hold over another option? I can't imagine someone wanting to go from 5.7 or 6.0 to a 5.3. Seems a good cam/LSA might be a good choice with a Circle D.
Your the one asking what a 5.3 is! Have you been under a rock since 1999 or what

If that's all you're looking for, then a rebuilt 6.0 or a 6.2 with LS3 heads (ported or not; but I'd port them) and the BTR 229*/244* cam with 1 7/8 LTs should do it....NA.

No need to worry if the 5.3 you drop is garbage or not; no need to worry about issues related to a SC or turbo.

I'd also drop on a set of gears.....like the 3.27 gears that came in the A6 Chevy SS.

My point was, since the G8 was about the same weight as the Chevy SS and the Camaro SS, an engine similarly spec'ed for those cars would work for the G8. NO NEED to step way out of the way to build a 'torquer' engine.

Besides, with some limitations.....build the engine for HP and multiply the torque with the drivetrain....IMO.

If staying NA I would at least do 3.45's, 3.27 is barely enough change to warrant the work and expense. Even with a boosted G8, 3.45's help make the most of it.

There are some bolton kits available if you poke around.

just put an LSA supercharger on your existing motor, supporting fuel system and let it eat.

But he's been here since 2006 he should know what a 5.3 is, but I'll agree with throwing an lsa on the current motor, do fuel system upgrades and call it a day.

The LS doesnt have enogh valves for stoppy. This is all a waste of time. I think he should swap a north star into it and that will put him back in a realm he can manage LOL

Different blocks, heads, intakes, cams, cluthes, raceweight, e.t and mph will be posted. Some on here and some are not and the others ive seen in person at tge LS fest in bowling green. Its just go be a long thread but its coming for guys to study and research to take in....

You guys are ********, I knew I should have made a new username.

On a more on topic note I might try to keep the G8 NA. Shoot for 10's cam only...Well, the GM "cam only" The hardest thing for me so far has been wrapping my head around a stall converter. Coming from manuals I don't know **** about autos. Yank, FTI, Circle D, and there was one more. I'm leaning towards the PAS3800 though.

Ah were just messing with you.....make sure you add rockers, crank scraper, and holesaws so you can claim the G8 bolt-IN record

they just calling a spade, a spade. Lol.

I like yank. If that makes any difference. I had a pas3600 in my gto. It worked good but I tightened it up to a 3200 after the turbo.
