Default Compstar vs lunati voodoo crank

Im in the market for a 4.00 stroke crank. Narrowed my choices down to compstar with the center counter weights or the lunati voodoo. Anybody got a reason to choose one over the other. I would usually go lunati but the ccw make me think the callies might be better. Opinions.

I would purchase both cranks, cut them in half, weld them together so you have a hybrid model.

Now that is a seriously out of the box idea. Lol. But that would only give me one center counter weight. Maybe cut the center out of the callies and weld it into the lunati would be better. What do you think.

Just as an aside you think flux core 110 mig would be hot enough to weld that together.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Questions, what is your power goal? What budget did you give yourself on a crank?

Rated to 800-900 hp and I'm sure someone has taken them beyond. Callies crank and rods in the 427 but I wouldn't be afraid to run any of them upwards to 900 and this includes a K1 an Eagle or Scat cranks

Gonna be a turbo set up. 1000whp is likely but will only turn it up as needed to run a mid to low 9 in a 3800 pound car with an ok suspension. Best i have run so far is a 1.63 60ft. Made a goal of sub 9.50 quarter on a 17 inch drag radial but like always i probably wont stop turning the boost up till i kill something or just cant go faster without spinning.

Start looking at their better cranks and rods then if your looking to make that kind of power. You can turn it up but can it stay together?

They are both Chinese forgings. I don’t think either one is better than the other.

When I was looking at 4" stroke cranks, I was leaning towards K1. I talked to 2 reputable engine builders and both expressed concern about the Compstar 4" crank flexing and prematurely destroying bearings.

My tuner has a LSX 427 turbo cateye truck that run deep 5s in the 1/8 mile. Anyway he had a K1 crank flex on him.... he running a callies crank now. Crank hasn't failed him yet.

It's one of the fastest trucks in America period. He always in the top 3 fastest at truck wars years yearly.

I can find out exactly which callies crank it is. Google Mafia Motorsports. Here is a pic of his truck.

That's cool. Just stating what I was told by more than 1 reputable engine builders. Feel free to ask around. Do with the info what you will.

The whole point of the CCW crank is to help stop the flex. Maybe he was running one of the older style non-CCW cranks?

You might want to get the Callies Dragon Slayer or the Magnum Crank for that power level. The magnum is a gun drilled Dragon Slayer. They are both forged and machined here in the USA. You might want to get the Ultra rods too. You will crank the power up. Everyone does. When you do, you will have piece of mind. At the end of the day though, the life of your parts is directly reflected by the quality of the job being done putting it together and tuning. I have seen some compstar stuff not handle 1000Hp then I also have a friend with a compstar crank and rods that sprays his to 1300Hp and it has lived for 2 seasons and hasn't refreshed it and doesn't plan to till the end of this season, which I think is crazy but he wants to see how long it lasts. His money I guess. We run the Dragon Slayer and Ultra H-beam rods. Every time we freshin it up, all the bearings still look like we just installed them and we spray quite a bit too. We both use the same engine builder and Dart blocks. Just my .02

I think compstar cranks can easily handle more than what they are rated for.

Get a plan together and spend as much as you can afford on a short block. If your going big on turbocharging then you start looking at what your going to be needing for a foundation and what parts need to go into it and on top of it..

I’m sorry... I just reread your post and saw that you’re looking at the new compstar..... I would go with the ccw crank for sure.

Molnar has ccw but not advanced. Better than both your choices.
