Making a Chevy SS LS3 go VVT Hello all,
Probably a dumb question as i've kinda been told already, but has anyone made a Chevy SS work with a VVT cam (and i'd presume full bolt ons, heads, etc)?
I know gen 5 camaros have gotten some sick results w LS3 motors and VVT, and i was told by a couple of shops that due to software differences between the SS and basically every other GM car, it can't really be done. I'm guessing some guys in oz have done it, just hoping there is someone stateside (i'm in NJ) who has done this and can get it done again.

According to Vorteciroc (former GM engineer), GM didn't use VVT in manual transmission cars because RPM spikes during downshifting would often cause PTV contact.
I was thinking about VVT too, but my car is a standard, and it's staying that way.

don't the new lt1/lt4 cars all have VVT? I know from posts on the camaro5 forum lots of guys have put aftermarket vvt cams in their camaros including ones that came LS3/manual transmission from the factory i.e. VVT is not stock on an LS3 Gen5 camaro, but can be added. my car is auto anyhow (i do think you bring up an interesting point however, there are of course extra complications and considerations adding VVT).
my desire to have my cake (power and torque all along the curve) and eat it too (not adding heat, weight, and the other stuff a blower gets you) may be for naught as i've been told the software on the SS platform is different than the us produced LS3 stuff, but if it can be done i'd love to do it!
