Default Ls3 cam vs 1x cam gear?

Been struggling to get my first build running. Ls2 sounds like it’s seizing up on start up and releasing air out the throttle body. Not hydro locked or anything and all the factors are there to start (fire, air, fuel). New cam/crank sensors but the car just sounds out of time.

I hired someone to bore and hone the engine and also build the bottom end. I opened up the timing cover to check for TDC; everything is good on that end. But I noticed he reused the 1x cam sprocket when we added an aftermarket ls3 cam. Could this be the problem I’ve been struggling with? Or can ls3 cams use the 1x instead of it’s factory 4x? I’ve found mixed input from talking with people and searching the web. Hoping someone’s had experience on this

Which sprocket depends on the system used.
If you are still 24X crank reluctor and have the cam sensor in back of the intake, the sprocket does not matter. It is not directly related to the cam used.
BUT if the sensor is on the timing cover it should be 1X if a 24X crank reluctor. Only if you have the later (about 2006 on up) 58X reluctor is the 4X cam sprocket used.

It’s a late model gto 2006 ls2 gen iv with the cam sensor on the timing cover. I’ve read some were made with the 58x/4x set up but all that really matters is that I have a corresponding 24x with the 1x sprocket correct? It also has an aftermarket crank. Could that be reluctor dependent? Appreciate this info!

All LS2's have timing cover cam sensors, and your system is 24X as I just looked up. So the 1X sprocket is correct for your setup.
It turns out that all 2005/2006 GTO's are 24X. 2006 was a transition year where 2006 Vettes and CTS-V were 58X. So it can get confusing.
