What do you think? Hey everyone, I have a Ls3 with a Howard's ASA cam, headers, gmpp dual plane intake, 950 quick fuel carb and planning on swapping it out for a cammotion junkyard dog cam... anyone have any experience with that cam an what do you think the hp difference would be coming from the ASA??
Search "camapalooza" it's the title of a really good recent thread by Cam Motion where they test their Junkyard Dog and a bunch of other cams, really informative and I think you'll find the info your looking for in that thread.
1) Howards's ASA Cam for LS3 226/236 .525/.525 with a 106 centerline
2) JunkYard Dog Cathedral Port LS Camshaft (232/244-111+4) 621"/.604" for "Single Plane"
3) GPI SS3

Between the three, I'd call Cam Motion and ask them to specifically spec a cam for your set up.
I think the JunkYard Dog & GPI SS3 with both make more power than the Howard's ASA. The GPI may carry the hp longer before falling off. The JY Dog will probably have slightly better manners based on less overlap.

Would look into a @Summitracing cam. They have cams made for short runner carb intakes that would probably make great power.

The Cam Motion cams are well thought out and Carb intake cams generally have earlier intake closing points (seen as narrower lobe separation) to compensate for the short runner intakes. Ome thing is for certain and that's the ASA is a dog of a cam that's hard not to improve upon. Spend the extra little bit for a boat load of performance whether it's a Cam Motion, BTR cam or one of our Pro LS offerings. You won't regret it.

The junkyard dog with its earlier intake closing point would be the better of the two for a carb style intake. We generally don’t recommend anything over .625 lift when using a stock rocker due to running off the edge of the valve stem so that’s another factor.
