Default Odd damage to rear of block

So LC9 block I bought as a spare in case I bust my L33.
I didn’t look it over real close, but spotted this when looking for the casting number.

Inside the rear cover. Machined surface, but doesn’t really do anything.
Cant imagine what caused this? Any ideas?

Flywheel bolt[s] too long?
Thrust gave up, and the bolts hit the block?

Possible thrust failure. The bearings were removed. Didn’t hit the cap, but ya never know on a used deal like this. Thx

After further review, thrust bearing failure is spot on. I can see that the crank throws hit 3 of 5 main bulk heads. 5,4, & 2.

Saw this on my buddies 6.0 when it lost the thrust.

Ron SS, you may remember my discussion with you and a few others, in a thread I was posting to, about the A4 flywheel pinch bolt not allowing for thermal expansion, like the slip fit splines on the M6/12 transmissions do. I explained that the best way (which I was informed of by a GM tech, and it makes sense) to do the pinch bolt was to have the drivetrain totally warmed up to temp, then quickly loosen the pinch bolt to allow the splines to "find" their proper position in a normal/fully hot temp situation, then re-tighten. My point is, did this block come out of an auto trans vehicle, or is that info unavailable?

Yes, but not w/o a little effort.
I bought this thinking a great spare, good bores, ect. I was wrong.
What I get for trusting folks, in this case, an engine builder I gave a lot of help to.

It's a 5.3 truck block. Was never in a vette.

Hmm. That's interesting. I do remember that at one point in time someone offered a service that drilled into the oil galley that supplies oil to the main saddle that the thrust bearing uses, thereby feeding pressurized oil to the thrust bearing. I'm thinking it may have been Kurt Urban performance. I think Kurt is at Scoggin Dickey now. I'm sure he could help if you desire that service.....
