Don't know if this is in the right spot, but I was wondering if anyone knew the purpose of the hump in the combustion chamber of an LS7 head. It's right above the spark plug hole. I'm assuming this can be massaged out, but didn't want to do it until I knew for sure it wouldn't create problems. Unless it's there for a reason ? Any input would be awesome. Thanks
Being the chambers are CNC shaped, if that hump were an issue, it would be gone. If you take it out it would not only reduce compression, it might disturb the intended swirl pattern
I was kinda thinking the same thing, but.... I cannot seem to find that on any other aftermarket castings or stock castings that have been ported by reputable companies. You have to admit, it looks ugly. I know the eye test doesn't mean anything , but my eyes tell me that it may be hurting flow, though probably an insignificant amount. Idle hands may be better in this case. Thanks for the response. Anyone else ever install them like this? Or smoothed it over a little? I wanted to maybe at least take the sharp edges off the shelf. But.... not if it's gonna make things worse.
Way back,, some GM heads would crack between the plug and the cooling jacket, so there was a thick spot there.
