NA C5Z Build

Couple updates. Paris finished the heads and manifold up. Got one head off to the machine shop so they can check PTV and finish up the bottom end. Chambers came in on the lower side of what we expected. Once opened up for the bore, he measured them at 62cc. We expected them to be around 69 or 70cc and then mill them down a bit to get 67 or so. He worked them a bit more and raised it up to around 64cc. So, with an LS9 gasket instead of an ls1 (051 gasket), should bring the static in around 14.2-14.3:1.
Still waiting on Liberty to get the gears back to us for the trans. Also found the spider gears in the diff cracked, so need to replace those. New Spintech muffler and turn down showed up though, so that is cool haha. Hoping I can get away with just one of these under the car, but I will have my friend set it up to add a second in the off chance one isn't enough.

I know most people always expect a cnc/smooth as glass port.. Otherwise they feel they're getting ripped off lol

You are right on the discussion around the burr finish works or not debate. I have seen enough evidence that it doesn't hurt on the intake ports, maybe adds a touch of power on some combos. The comb chambers, though, I have never seen proof either way that it works or not. No one to my knowledge has ever done any published testing on it. That being said, your combo is dedicated e85 build, correct? That may help specifically with that fuel since the mixture volume of fuel is so much greater. in theory would help promote combistion. That would be interesting to hear opinion on.

Another benefit that most claim is better on and off throttle performance. There's a great thread on speed talk from years ago that I'll dig up and link here. It's 70 pages of back and forth, but a lot of great info in there.

Made some progress this weekend on the Holley install. Harness is routed from the location of the ecu through to firewall for both the main and DBW harness. So far so good on where everything will land. Be nice if you would get a bit better harness than what they send though, along with the fact that it could be a bit more tailored to what kit you purchase. . For example, I don't need a connector for a tps, iac, etc when I purchased this kit specifically for a dbw car. Not a big deal though, but just extra clutter.

Stopped by the machine shop Friday to see if they were finished up yet. All that's left is indicating the bell housing and balancing the clutch and flywheel. Picked up some offset dowels for them and dropped those off Saturday morning.. Everything should be ready to be picked up by Tuesday or Wednesday. My friend said he talked to liberty, they claim the gears are finished.. So hopefully have those back this week.

Guess I haven't updated this in a minute lol .. Have had the engine home for awhile now, got the heads on, measured for pushrods and luckily only needed to order 4 from Manton as 12 others I had were within a couple thou of most of my measurements/groupings. Got the engine sort of in the car the other night, but I had to have my friend weld in a starter gear/flywheel opening cover so nothing would get into the bell and jam up since it is a rather large hole.. well, the cover he welded up was a bit large so it actually interfered with the frame rail of the car, so I had him cut it down a bit.
Here is just a big photo dump lol
