I distrust those OEM lifter trays. They wear and allow the lifters to twist a bit off of 90* alignment with the cam. That's the beginning of bad news. I went with tie bar lifters to ditch the trays.

Well have my work cut out... The lifter trays I removed were not damaged and all the lifters were not able to rotate. I have heard of failures on link bars too so going that way isn't 100%, may be better but nothing is bullet proof. Will be using new trays.

Have a set of johnson 2110r's, new lifter trays, new gm heavy duty timing chain with gears and ls2 style damper. Cam sent to Delta cams for repair, heads at a local machine shop. Complete gasket set (front/rear cover gaskets/seals, oil pan gasket, valley cover, intake/exhaust valve covers, water pump). Monster twin disc S series, new gm slave (with shim kit) billet release bearing support and remote bleeder. Need to decide on a shifter, oil pump, harmonic balancer, trunnions...

No telling how long until I get this back together and I'm certain to need any tips or words of encouragement along the way

I'm running 170lbs seat pressure/430lbs over the nose, dual PAC springs. Been in for 8 years/41,000 miles, with no issues at all. YMMV.....

Well I'm bringing the block to a machine shop since I ended up breaking the crank balancer bolt trying to press on a new timing gear. Was on almost all the way then heard a snap. Removed the bolt and it is about an inch shorter! Thought I would remove the new sprocket and it won't budge... not sure what the deal is but I figure I'll just have the motor freshened up. Cam bearings weren't in the best of shape but the journals looked perfect and I was going to run it but since I now have a broken off bolt in the crank and the motor has 120k a refresh is in order.

Well after patiently waiting I picked up the motor from the machine shop yesterday. I will need to wait a few days to get all the specs from the rebuild as the owners son was not in and the owner isn't allowed on his sons computer. Did get some info though of which was the report on balancing. I guess is was a ways off before... I don't really understand the info on the balance sheet it is in the PDF attached..

Went with a cam motion stage 3 ls3 high lift cam, johnson 2110r lifters (7.350 pushrods), smith brother trunions, new cam bearings, piston rings (piston bore was good, just honed) heads refreshed (had dual springs/titanium retainers) HV oil pump, new timing gears/chain/retaining plate. All crank and rod bearings were in excellent condition and reused, valley oil galley ports tapped and plugged, crank machined for keyway, ATI balancer/ARP bolt, ARP head bolts. Pre-lubed and smoke tested, all new gaskets and seal. Now to get it installed....
