Default Ls2 dod delete

Correct me if I'm wrong, LS2 does not have dod. But the towers are there. Do I need the valley cover with o-rings, or can I just get the flat, low profile? I'm sure the answer is here somewhere, but I get sick of looking... thanks!

LS2 does NOT have AFM/DOD.
It uses what is known as the LS3 cover. You do need to seal the tops of those towers. TSP, Cam Motion, and possibly WS6 store have them if you need one.

Or do this (obviously if the engine is apart)

Ya, should have done that. But rotating assembly is in... I just haven't wrapped my head around why. Are there feed holes down in there? I mean, the bottom is still open.

The hole in the top of that tower goes directly to the lifter bore. If your bottom end is assembled, it’s too late to thread the towers. Just use an o-ringed cover. You’ll be fine.

Some LS2 oil pans do have the DOD valve in them. (At least some GTO LS2 pans do.). Even if the rest of the DOD components aren't there in the rest of the engine that valve can cause high RPM oil pressure problems. Check the pan and if it has a DOD valve, remove it and plug the opening.

Thanks for the info! Not sure what pan I`ll be using yet. Motor is probably going in my `98 k-1500, unless I find a cheep (2500.00) driveable roller near me, therefore I can use one of the truck pans I have.

I'm new to the group and I'm transplanting a 2005 LS2 out of a GTO, into a 55 Chevy pickup. I read this thread and started thinking I might check on the DOD valve. Can you tell me how to identify?

IF it's an LS2 it does not have DOD. Read the first posts of this thread.

Read the subsequent posts. SOME LS2 oil pans have the DOD valve in them even though the engine itself is not set up for DOD.

Sorry, I don't have a picture to share showing the exact location.

BUT, if it is a 2005 LS2 I doubt it would have the DOD valve in the pan. Some late 2006's do and GM replacement part LS2 oil pans typically do.
