This is the first engine I have broke in. When I got it back from the builder he said it was good to go but apparently not that's why I'm asking people with lots more experience than me for info. I really do appreciate all the feed back.

in my stick car I just put into 3rd gear and got it up to 60-80mph and then I'd get out of the throttle. I did this several times to generate heat into the cylinders and it looked like a mosquito truck was going down the road but then it cleared up and all was good.

Ok thanks for the info. I will get new Lucas break in oil and zinc additive and do some driving. I just hope they will still seat since that other oil was used first

Nobody can answer that for you. Depends on cam events and other factors. I only did mine before and after because I was having first start issues and then was checking health after accidentally hydrolocking.

A leak down and compression test wouldn't hurt and would be an interesting baseline

I had to move the car today so when it was running I pulled the oil fill cap off. There was barley any air coming out of the hole. I still need to do the leak down test though

I stuck a piece of paper over the fill cap hole and it didn't move up at all.

Default F1 "tech" for ring seating

Hi ALL, the F1 engine needed a "short" life.
Mike Costin stated to ME "Powder" can be used to seat the rings.
The Product BonAmia is a NO Grit powder.
Just introduce a small amount past your Airdoor.

Thats at idle. At rpm the atmosphere inside the crankcase will be much more volatile.

For break-in, the break-in oil alone should be fine. If you add ZDDP, that is increasing lubricity, EXACTLY what you are trying to get away from by not using synthetic!! Just run conventional or break-in oil for 500 miles, change it, using conventional, or break-in oil again, then at 1,000 miles, go synthetic. I highly recommend a GOOD, STRONG magnetic drain plug. My .02.

Maybe on old school Chrome rings, but that's about it. I don't think you can even find Chrome rings anymore

Here's another thought; it is possible that one, or more, of the ring packs could be installed upside down. Even the best builders are human, and make mistakes. Does the engine smoke? If you run cats they can mask oil burning to a degree. Something is amiss here. Even if the rings aren't seated, you shouldn't be pushing the dipstick up out of the tube. My opinion...
