Default Beware FAKE "GM" Lifter Trays On Amazon

I needed new lifter trays so I went on Amazon and knew that OEM-GM was the only way to go. I found this listing;
Amazon Amazon
I ordered 4 of the trays. When they arrived 3 of the 4 are CHINA FAKES! The fake ones are silvery gray in color, and the plastic is a harder type of almost polished plastic. They WILL NOT hold the lifters firmly at all. When you put the lifters in they simply fall right out of the tray. I tried to put the lifters into the tray and then load the tray into the engine-all 4 lifters immediately fall out of the tray and landed in the valley of the engine. I then tried to pick up the tray with the lifters pointed down they all immediately fall out... The silvery gray ones also DO NOT HAVE A GM PART # CAST IN THEM BY THE RETENTION BOLT HOLE. The 4th tray that I got IS a REAL GM tray.. Correct dark brown color, correct material that has almost like a grainy feel to it, HAS the GM part # by the retention bolt hole, and will absolutely FIRMLY hold the lifters. You have to really press the lifter into the tray as the tray will grab ahold of the lifter. I contacted Amazon and they said "SUCK IT!". They also refused to post my review because it painted THEIR CLIENT as a CRIMINAL-which they are.... So... just posting this here in case someone else tries to order REAL GM LIFTER TRAYS like the ad mentions.. If 1 out of 4 trays is legit-I guess they can sleep at night saying they are selling REAL GM trays... Amazon essentially telling me that I'm not allowed to share the truth about their vendor.... Really pisses me off. I'm going to keep trying to post a review and just try and find a way to word it so that it gets past their auditors.

Thank you for the heads up. Im sorry to hear this. That really sucks!! Time and again we've seen issues, BIG, MAJOR issues, like wiped out cams and lifters, plus collateral engine damage, with the non-GM trays. I never buy engine parts from Amazon. Almost always Pace, Scoggin Dickey, Jegs, or Summit. Even then there's no guarantees. But Amazon really screwed you, for sure. Also, what the Hell good are reviews if companies decide they don't like what is said, and simply delete the non favorable review(s)??! So you caught them, called them on it, and Bozo, er Bezos, cried all the way to the bank. What good is feedback ANYWHERE if the powers that be censor it because a major advertiser might not come thru it smelling like a rose? Sounds like DC!! Makes me wanna

eBay did the same thing when I reported a seller for selling knock-off NGK spark plugs. They just shrugged and whatever'd my report.

Neither company really cares to put an end to the counterfeiters.

I've always thought that as long as you order the exact part with the right part number and brand ID, you would be safe.
BUT that no longer appears to be true. I would stick with Rock Auto, Summit, Jegs, TSP, WS6 store, etc.

The best way to ensure they're OEM is spend a few bucks more and get them at the Chevy, or GM dealer. If you're sticking thousands into an engine, what's another $5 each, if that, for genuine trays?

Quite so! What I was inferring, though, is that there ARE reputable suppliers out there besides actual GM dealers, though they ARE a "bulletproof" source if unsure about others.

Be happy you didn't get someone else used stock parts in the box. Last batch of stuff I bought, half of it was exactly that.

Amazon. Not the used/warehouse section either. Ordered new stuff and dirty, broken, oily parts in box.

GM lifters trays by Delphi have the GM part number embossed in the center of the tray between the lifter holes. No number, then they are not REAL GM.

Definitely go to the dealer for the trays and lifters. I see people list stuff that was " bulk" from GM. I never once saw where you could buy bulk when I worked at the dealership.

Just a little follow up to Kawabuggys post about lifter trays...Here's a couple pictures of different trays...

Old original GM lifter tray on the left, what I suspect is "Chinesium" center, new genuine GM on the right....

my summit trays look just like the ones in the center pic above. however, I just did a test fit, they grip 7717 lifters pretty good. may have gotten a "good" set, or just got lucky. obviously, slinging the tray around with the lifters wouldn't hold even with genuine oem ones, but I was able to wrist shake mine pretty good, and they held. Thats the downside to china stuff... no consistency.. maybe good, maybe bad.

Just a follow up to this post.. I ordered another set of 4 trays today but this time directly from Mac Haik Chevrolet-local to me, and all 4 HAVE the GM part # embossed in them by the retention hole. Looking into them from the top, or cylinder head side, the one thing that really stands out is that there are vertical support ribs a full 360 degrees around the inside of the open hole where the lifter rides-just like those on the RIGHT in the picture that CattleAC posted above. They definitely hold the lifters tightly. My receipt shows GM part #12669184 X2 and 12669185 X2. They are $14.91 & $14.59 each respectively for those that want to know. I just tried to install the new lifter trays and realized they are AFM/DOD trays! Returned them to Chevy and exchanged them for GM PART# 12595365... This is the correct # and they have the embossed part #, and they hold the lifters tightly!

In the referenced pic above-those center trays are... not something I would be excited about. Maybe Summit has been had by one of their suppliers.. Rock on peeps!

Never buy ANYTHING from Amazon fulfillment or any part that sells for significantly less than the manufacturer sells it for… use your brain. How is it possible for them to be selling a genuine part for that much cheaper?

…. because is not Genuine. 99.99% of items sold directly from Amazon Prime are fake. This is the world we live in today. And you can’t expect accountability from the company that got rich from selling you products produced from the best copy kats of the world.

One last follow up...the tray in the middle is NOT from Amazon, but one of the two largest performance parts retailers out there...
