Default Ported LS3 Heads (specific) thoughts needed ASAP

Hi folks

I have an LS3 engine on order for install this week. Questioning, if these heads which are in stock are worth it to pair with a good size 233/253 .646/.637 112 LSA cam.

They appear to be stock casting 823 or L92 with PRC port work. The other option would possibly be GMPP CNC heads with .660 Springs.

LS3 and L92 CNC Ported Heads, PRC - Hawks Third Generation (hawksmotorsports.com)

I have to order today, to get to the shop on time.

Without knowing your goals, all I can say is you have spec'd a HUGE split in duration. Personally, I think a 233/240-245 is plenty! I have an LS7 with a 232/250 cam, and I'm positive I have too much split, and LS7s are supposed to love large splits. How do I know? Because I ran a specific grind LS1 cam in my LS7 before my current cam, that had only a 238/242 split, and it made 617hp@6,300rpm/565lb/ft@5,000rpm. Depending on how you want to use the car, a 233/253 is not necessary. My .02.....

The cam does have some overlap but makes good power and pulls like an animal in mid and upper ranges.

I had it previously in my 1st motor(LS3).

I did contemplate a smaller exhaust split, but power would be down a bit. After the loss of my LS7. I need at least heads/cam as it will be quite a dropoff.

I like the rowdiness..

Go with either the GM cnc heads or send a core set out to Gwatney if you want easy bolt on. If you want the best, have Greg Good do a set for you. Just a thought, since you already have an LS7 intake, rockers, etc. Why not do a small bore LS7 head? Gwatney has a set of Brodix heads made to their spec for the application.

I'm tapped out. Going so far beyond what is reasonable after losing 20k in mods LS7 since last aug. Then sourcing and now swapping a LS3.

I got a set of Wilkes performance ported castings to pair with the SS3 cam. While it will make decent peak, it is going to feel gutless vs the LS7 setup.😮‍💨.

I got a corvette salvage LS3 complete. Was advertised as 38k and selller had an in car running clip sounded nice.

Engine arrived at the installers and he pulled out a comp cam. Says it has dual springs and oil pump installed. None of that was disclosed. (They typically do).

He is checking the rings on a piston tomorrow..
