This will give me 421 cubic inches. 421 was the first high performance motor used in the Grand Prix, I'm nostalgic (old). I'm between the 4L80 and 6L80. I prefer the 6L, but I'm doing the work myself and want as little modification as possible. I too want a mild cam. I'll have a lot more cubic inches so I'm probably going with a 228*/230*, .600"/.600" cam. This was recommended to me based on my goals. I'm looking for 500 RWHP, which I'm told will be a piece of cake with this build. I'll also start with an LY6 or L96 to get the 823 heads.
Not to hi-jack, but 500RWHP means it'd make almost 600hp @ the crank. You're not going to hit that with a 228/230, even with a 421. The 823s intake to exhaust efficiency is around 70% IIRC. So they like a decent split, even with long tube headers and high flowing exhaust. You'd need a little more intake duration and a lot more exhaust duration.

Summit's SUM-8710R1 230/242 113+3 would probably get you there (or really close) and still easily be driveable, but it won't be mistaken for stock. If being "mild" is more important, and you're willing to sacrifice a few ponies, Cammotion's Stealthy Stroker LS Camshaft for Rec Port (230/242 117+5) would be also closer to 500RWHP than a Sloppy Stage 2 (but less HP of the SUM-8710R1). Depends on your definition of "mild."

68, thanks, that's very good information and certainly thought provoking. I'm not locked into anything yet. Hopefully, I can find something with a similar build that I could see a video of it running and hear what it sounds like. 500 RWHP isn't a hard line in the sand for me, nor is stock sounding. I know no matter what I end up with, it's not going to sound like it's stock, I just don't want a real choppy idle. I'm willing to give some on both, to get close to where I want to be.
