Picked up this LY6 6.0, cross hatching looks great. I scoped the cylinders out and am trying to understand what pistons these are? The engine could be refurbished as I don’t think all the chambers had these pistons (or maybe the carbon covered it up)
Looks like they just pieced it back together. The bores look good. It appears the block was refurbished at some point. I’m measuring 4.025 bores (probably .20 over).
good thing I didn’t just swap it in my K5, there were no head gaskets.
haven’t pulled any bearings or anything. But everything looks ok and turns over fine. Its bores measured 4.025. Obviously has the wrong rocker arms and had no head gasket so it was just pieced back together
No way I’m running that. I’d 100% go through the engine. There’s a reason someone set the heads on the block without gaskets, threw a set of cathedral rockers on it, and sold it. Be very diligent when taking this apart, while inspecting everything.
The engine was definitely pulled because of the cam. It’s a AFM delete motor but I suspect the VVT failed. The first cam bearing looked rough.
the cylinder walls looked beautiful, no issues. I pulled #3 and #4 rod caps. They look good I think, catch catch my finger anywhere. Need to pull the rest of them.
