What is this???
i do not recall seeing this on the LS2 removed from my GTO.
I have looked at the shop manual and cannot identify it.
little aluminum block with two bolts and cut tubes
On another note this is External Engine, not internal.

Word of warning: those 2 bolts are 6mm. Probably the worst metric size they can possibly be, with the possible exception of 11mm (the size our head bolts are). The threads for that size are VERY fine, and they only go into the aluminum of the pan. It's VERY eeeeeeeeeezzzzzy to overtighten them and strip the holes in the pan out. Almost inevitable I'd say. I'd STRONGLY recommend installing Heli-Coils in those holes while they're accessible, BEFORE isntalling the little cover thing, instead of putting in the motor, discovering there's a leeeek, and finding yourself in ohshit what do I do now mode.
Note also, the 2 long bolts in the back corners of the pan go into the rear cover, and they have the same problem. Launch a preemptive first strike on all 4 of those holes. For those 2 you'll have to drop the pan and put in a new gasket, and wouldn't having a new pan gasket just be a crying shame.
Who knows, you might find lovely surprises in the pan anyway; not least, the possibility of an inch of crusty gunk built up in there. When you put the pan back on, use a straightedge across the back, to make sure the combined surfaces of the pan and the block, are properly aligned.
