Default Is this block scrap?

Pretty sure I know the answer to this but I wanted to get some more opinions before I write it off as scrap. Were buying a new gm long block but it would be nice to be able to recoup some of that cost

It’s scrap. But it’s perfectly fine for a mock-up block or a piece to clean up and display. Lots of folks buy blocks like this for tables, etc.

Yeah that's not a "block" anymore; it's just a "block-shaped object".

Its life is over.

Thanks for the confirmation.

This is the product of a broken stock valve spring in my girlfriends ‘15 ss with just over 150k on the clock. She said from the time she heard a strange noise to the time she cut the car off was about 15 seconds

X3!......And people still wonder why some of us run dual springs when a single spring "could" meet the cams requirements. I realize GM used single spring, so not your choice. I once broke an outer spring. 300 miles on a fresh 427. Left a stop sign, only 1 mile from home, under light throttle. I was leaving for work at 4:45 A.M. At approximately 2,000 rpm as the 4L60E shifted to second gear, all of a sudden RAP, RAP, RAP, then no more noise. I shut it down. Saved the motor!!! I restarted the engine, and sounded fine. Drove it 1 mile back home (I know, I shouldn't have, but I got lucky!) with no more noises. Pulled a valve cover that afternoon, and found the outer spring in 3 pieces, with 2 of them lodged in the heads oil drain back holes!! Sorry to hear of your loss......

that’s exactly what I told her. I remember when I was a kid way back in 2000-2001, my dad had a 99 z28 with a baby cam and dual springs. 2 seperate occasions it broke multiple springs and he drove it way farther than I’d like to admit and on both occasions the inner spring saved him from catastrophic failure

I had a spring on my Formula's original engine break, luckily it was at idle. The only thing holding the valve up was a flat wound damper. I've ran dual springs in any performance build I've done ever since.
