Identifying Engine Hey all, so found a 5.3 aluminum block ls on marketplace for 200 came with tranny, and motor but stripped down to bare block.. it sounds like the guy who had it had plans for a build but didn't end up following through so, motor came with rods but no pistons, no lifters or cam. but all the belt drive accessory's and stuff.. so i am currently trying to determine what is what. from what he told me he got rid of lifters and cam because motor had AFM/DOD, got rod of pistons because he wanted to bore out cylinders. so from what i know like i mentioned above is
5.3 LS aluminum block ( IH6 )
Heads - casting number 799
Rods all have casting number ( 3847 ) as well as a dimple mid rod.
crank is a 5.3 crank confirmed.
tranny is 4L60
with that info if someone could help me figure out what all I have

All LS 5.7, 5.3, 6.0, and 6.2 cranks are the same. You likely have an LH6 (NOT IH6)
You have the best cathedral heads made.
I would check the bores for wear and/or scoring, and go from there.
The previous owner is an idiot. You don't get rid of parts until you KNOW what you want to do.

Just confirmed it is LH6, and great to hear about the heads !! the cylinder walls do have mild scoring so i am going to try to hone them out and my plan if everything works out is just to rebuilt to put into my C10

The LH6 block is one of the strongest factory blocks made. I'm pushing close to 800 at the wheels with mine. The block can take significant overboring, up to .125" oversize. Basically going up to LS1 bore size. I did mine .030" over to keep the cylinder wall strength for boost.
