Proper non stroker cam 416 LS3 build
I am looking into 416 options (want a 427) but without the iron block.
My question is, what cam sizing without being max effort can gain the proper HP and TQ's that will keep me happy.
Currently the car has 3.91's M6 and I am hoping for mid 500 wheel and at least 500 wheel torque with a useable curve.
This is what I ground for my 427 and it is out performing my expectations while being extremely docile. 8 degrees of overlap.
Another option that would be even more mild - 2 degrees overlap
Stealthy Stroker LS Camshaft (230/242-117+5) for Rectangle Port
I had a 226/242 on 117 cam I ground for my old 402 that made 512whp through a stock LS3 intake and stock heads. 0 degree overlap option.I would personally not go smaller than the stealthy stroker, and I'm very happy with my latest cam.
Would need to know more what kind of powerband you want, how aggressive of an idle, peak RPM range, what intake manifold and heads, use for the car etc.
My LS7 had a mild GMPP cam that was 227/242 on 117LSA, but with the big cubes it still had a nice presence. It made 585/530 with LME Heads and an MSD intake. It was also easy to drive with gobs of torque and power everywhere.
Stroker Cams from what I have seen might attract me unwanted attention. I do want to make some solid numbers, but trying to keep the idle somewhat moderate.
As far as the curve. I would like torque everywhere of course. 2500 to 6800 rpm which is probably a tough ask.
