I ordered a Comp Cams pushrod length checker and remeasured for pushrod length. On all four corners, I ended up with a 7.325 measurement. Since pre load values for LS7 lifters were from 0.050 to 0.100, I added 0.070 of preload to that to get 7.395. Just wanted to update the verification of the noise not being a pushrod length issue.
I’m chalking it up to potentially cheap(er) loud lifters at this point. I’ll be living with the noise as the performance doesn’t seem like an issue.
Well, last night I pulled my pass side VC. I was in search of a very loud tick (again). I found the culprit. This, mind you after less than 2500 miles on the new cam. I looked at this valvetrain last season and found nothing wrong. Last night I found a rocker with its trunion damaged. Thank goodness it didn't cause a catastrophic failure. The motor ran well with this damage. So well that I couldn't tell it was broken. Anyway, it's an easy and cheap fix (for me). This just makes me all the more wary of aftermarket cams.
Instead of replacing ALL the trunions which would be the safe and right thing to do, I'm replacing the damaged one ONLY. Ordered from BTR, received it, installed it. All good. For now. No more ticking. When you want to go FASTER, you tend to break parts. We all know that. Some better than others.
