Default Cam change out in a L92/LS3.

So I over cammed my 80 Camaro a bit so this winter I'm going smaller cam wise. I fabbed a set lifter rods to hold the lifters up while I remove the current cam and install the new smaller cam. I will rotate the cam to push the lifters up and then insert the lifter rods before pulling the cam out?
Any help would be great.

There are no 1.6 rocker arms in stock configuration so I'd skip all that. On the street stock is just too good and they can rpm better than any roller tip in a hydraulic application.

Those are not generally available for LS engines since they normally come with 1.7 rockers. Gotta be practical Lance....
Most people don't have the budget for custom made parts

The car is my 80 Camaro. 3.73 gears. 2012 6.2. 4L60E. 2800 stall Yank converter.
Cam specs are 225I/230E 114 CL from Texas Speed. I used the same cam on my 73 Camaro with a 6.2/TKO 600 combo. It ran well no issues.
I spoke to the folks at Yank. They said I should of purchased a 3200 stall converter. Let me be clear. I ordered the current Yank converter without consulting Yank with my engine cam specs. Not very smart on my part.
A new Yank billet 3200 converter is $1000 plus install. Around here the install would be about $600. So about $1600 minimum.
Or maybe a new smaller cam roughly 10 degrees smaller both intake and exhaust? I can do the install myself in the car. Not fun but I can do it.
Tune wise I had a "drive" tune by a tuner I have used before and trust. Can it be refined? Mostly likely yes.
I'm going to drive it for a bit and make changes as needed this winter.

That’s not too much cam for a 6.2. I’d work on the tune. Converter is a little small yes, but I’d say tune is more important here.

Thanks for input. I do plan on putting some miles on it in the next month and get the tune "tuned" up.
Question. If you beat on the converter a bit via hard starts will it loosen the converter a bit?

I had a bigger cam in my 5.7 and it drove great. Seems like a tuning issue.

That said, I know nothing about automatic transmissions.

I agree, thats not that big a cam and converter is a touch small but isn't way off... If a new tune doesn't fix it try advancing the cam 2-4 deg. That will move the torque curve down and peak torque lower in RPM's

No if they are acting "LOOSER" it means something broke or its not the converter "your clutches just burnt up: LMAO I wish my stock converter with 300k miles now was a 3500 stall

clean car, as others have said i would have the tune looked at by someone reputable before changing any parts out, that is not a big cam for a 6.2 at all

Thanks for all the replies.
I am going to have the tune "reviewed" by a different tuner.
Thanks again.
