Ring thicknesses?

Ring thicknesses? Been doing some research and just learned that the LS2s that came in the TBSS and SSR came with a 1.5/1.5/3.0mm ring package, whereas the LS2s in the passenger cars had a thinner set, 1.2/1.5/2.5mm.
I know a thinner ring is less friction, seals better, etc so it frees up more power, but why would GM run a thicker ring set in the truck motors? Would there be any massive detriment if you ran the thinner set in a truck motor?
