Default Girdle with a Callies CompStar 8cw

5.3L sleeved to 4.125", 4" stroke, Callies CompStar crank, COMPSTAR APO-31Q-CS 8CWT 4.000 STROKE CRANK

CompStar rods, COMPSTAR CA6125DS2A2AH 6.125 RODS

Is there a girdle that will work with that crank and rod combination?

Thanks!

You really don't see too many people run block girdles in the LS world. I feel like this is really old school train of thought.

Why not just pin the mains along w/studs? That combination will live at 2000hp and all the RPM.

I know Katech ran girdles in some of their roadracing engines back 15-20 years ago. It does tie mains together, so it should make the lower end a bit more stable at high rpm. It may, or may not, help with high hp roadracing engines. I also don't know if Katech still does this. I suspect there are huge differences in stress where a 1,000+hp engine runs at 7,000 rpm for 8 seconds, and a 650hp-700hp engine runs at 7,000 rpm for a few hours. I once saw an LS7 roadracing head that was broken in half. It was at Thomson Automotive, in Wixom, Michigan, and used shaft mounted rocker arms. It spent many hours at 6,000-7,000 rpm in the races it entered. It was believed that something in the harmonics caused the failure.....

Katech has been sold, for those here who haven’t heard yet. Best bet is to Google the press release.
Keeping this thread on track, GM designed the windage tray to be a pretty effective girdle. It’s fairly robust and does a good job at tying everything together down there.

The windage tray is an interesting thought. It probably is pretty strong, especially with the bends in strategic places. I guess I never looked at it as anything more than an oil shield and something to space away from rotating assembly with hard washers to clear stroker cranks!!
