Are they actual grooves, or stains?

It looks like thin grooves that are standing proud of the worn away surface. I would never use any of the press fit bushings nor the needle bearings without a inner race.

Last time I checked at about 15,000 street miles my Smith Bros trunnions didn't have any play.

I’ve posted these pics previously, on another CHE thread I started, but here it is again. I peeked at it with 30k+- miles just to check wear. Cam had over .600 lift with a dual spring setup. CHE bushings are near perfect. I was impressed. It’s my brothers truck and he’s hard on it. It doesn’t get driven easy. He changes his oil every 3500 as do I, so it’s always clean in there.

Those are grooves, it happens to every one of them. I've seen this countless times.

I've said it a thousand times and I'm sure I'm going to say it a thousand more times. The CHE kit is the way to go. There is no downside to it.

The nice thing about the bronze trunnions is that after they wear out, you and your wife have a nice set of matching wedding rings.

I looked for the thread and couldn't find it. I remember it was on the Camaro 5 board and the cam used was a GPI cam with .640-.650 lift. Much over .620 lift doesn't play well with stock rocker arms no matter what trunion upgrade you use.

I may have to lathe one up and try that.

It's been a long time since I've logged back into here. But this thread caught my eye.
As for trunnion kits I only use CHE. I build and rebuild many engines for guys now, mostly rock bouncers. They all get CHE if they don't already have them. I'm using the shaft kits now on the boosted engines since these guys literally live on the rev limiter. Every year at PRI, the guys always have something new and exciting
Here is the main reason why. This came out of TSP engine I rebuilt for a guy about 2 months ago after a rocker failure. I don't know if it was actually TSPs trunnion kit, but it was an aftermarket one. And the cam wasn't even that big.

Bronze bushings in rockers is just like in roller lifters - they require very clean oil. If you like to run less than very clean oil or aren't meticulous about cleaning everything before assembly, they'll wear out and/or and get grooves quickly - just like cylinder walls and bearings.
Big block racers all know this, most run pressure fed needle bearings in their street cars and bronze in race-only applications where oil is changed at very short intervals.
They won't have grooves without trash in the oil, there has to be something to wear a groove in a flat surface, clean oil won't do it. Ash that makes it past the rings is abrasive and wears soft metals like bronze but the wear is typically very even across the bushing and shows up in every one.
