z07
The Z06 motor size was leaked on internal GM documents at 6.4L. My understanding is this motor may not have had the beans necessary to get the target number. My understanding is the LS7 is a 104.8mm bore size (4.125").
For reference a 427 is 7.0L (a liter is just shy of 62 cu inches, just for reference). 6.6 is ~400 inches and a 6.4 is just shy of it...
427=7.0
400=6.6
350=5.7
231=3.8
Target HP has always been at least 500HP fully dressed out. In other words, like the Z06 motor which is rated @ 405 but most make 415 to 420, GM wants 500 on any motor, but in reality be able to dyno 520 with the average motor and 500 on a "dog" motor. But, with these motors being hand built in the new GM planty I forsee these motors being much closer than the more production LS series motors.
GM will not make the same mistake as Ford did on the older Cobra and market a car that doesn't hit its target number.

WOW!!!! I WANT A BLUE DEVIL!!!!!!!!
Most people think the first year of z06 will se 475 HP and then up to 500 after that

I don't think most folks feel the first year Z will be @ 475. This is not like 2001 and 2002 where all the upgrades for 2002 were still in testing, so they released the 2001 and it was down on HP. Understand that in 2001, they knew what they intended to do, they just hadn't had enough time to get it all tested and certified.
In this case, the R&D cycle is much longer, etc... If you speak to someone on the inside, 500 sees to be the magic number. That seems to be the hard target. That means, as I said, most will be over that so that 500 is the low water mark, but will be the spec. Nobody will argue if it makes a bit over, as GM normally does this.
As for a 575-625HP car. Blue Devil has been in testing for awhile now. How much HP it ends up with, if it makes final production, and pricing have yet to be determined, but there are a lot of rumors floating around about it. I don't think you can really dismiss it at this point.

Corvette: The restyled and re-engineered 2005 Corvette is being launched this summer; a convertible arrives this fall. A 6.0-liter V-8 engine producing 400 hp is standard. The Z06 model with a 7.0-liter, 500-hp V-8 and a fastback roofline is on tap for the 2006 model year."
It is interesting that Corvette Forum removed the post.

If they were offered to me for free I would take the Viper then sell it, buy the Vette and pocket 20 G's.

As for the 6.4L size that's about 396 cubes right? That used to be a very popular size for Gm motors in the day. I could easily see that being the size they end up going with. Either way I plan getting one of these future z06s one day when the money/opportunity presents itself. Id still buy a C6 Z06 over one though, just because of the price.
Viper + a twin turbo setup and 3.73 gears would be WILD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
too bad it would cost $100K+

New Viper cost $80K
Supercharger for the Viper $10K
Total for 700 hp $90K
New Vette cost $50K
C5R 427 with a twin turbo setup. $30K
Total for 800 hp $80K
Looks to me like the Vette would win that contest.

if I had $80K to dump on a TT Vette, then the extra $10K for the Viper wouldn't be a problem.....besides......the Viper is a 508 (I think) CI so whatever HP you can pull out of the Vette, you will be able to pull more out of the Viper (thus why I said TT Viper......not SC)
