Its a mildly tweaked LSx motor. A few more cubes. Relocated knock sensors. Different intake. LS6 heads. Relocated cam sensor. New PCV system. Maybe a few more I forgot. But honestly I'm not sure why they slapped Gen IV on there. More marketing than anything else IMO.

LS2 is still a Gen III small block. If they want to call the LS2 a Gen IV block with the minor changes that it has, why not go all the way back to 1981 and call the L83 the "Gen II" small block. Then when the L98 came out call it the Gen III small block, LTXs Gen IV, LS1 Gen V...well you get my point.

I also think it is just marketing to call it a Gen IV. When the multivalve heads come out I'll consider it a Gen IV.

most parts are directly interchangable between the LS1 and LS2, as stated in the first reply

Well that's not exactly cubes, that's liters. It's roughly 364-366 cubic inches.

Sure it's cubes, cubic centimeters. 1,000 of which make a liter

I think what everyone will find is that it is an unremarkable upgrade from the LS1/6. It's performance could easily be matched and even exceeded using similar upgrade parts on an LS1/6 motor. Weak GM....very weak.

From my understanding its completely different. In one of the many C6 articles I have read the engineers went into detail about how it was reworked. Personally I just installed a catch can and quit worrying about it.

To me it's a Gen III & a half. The electical changes are significant enough that they need to be noted, but the LS2 as a whole is an evolutionary half step at the most. It's better for us actually.

I think the main thing they are changing is the ability to shut down cylinders for economy, making it the next generation. The small ci increase is a normal life cycle change.

You won't be able to do that on the LS2. Their new truck motors will be able to tho. You're referring to what GM nicknamed DOD, Displacement On Demand.

Hmmm. Perhaps DUD would be more appropriate. I see Chrysler has been busy digging up their old muscle cars...I wonder if they have found any new technology...
