Default why is the LS2 intake a three piece intake

why is the LS2 intake also a three piece intake?
What is the advantage? It seems one has to worry
about more gaskets and possible leaks when working on
it?

There are no gasketts in between the pieces. It is Friction welded (or glued) together.
The LSX can be disassembled easily so you can do portwork to it.
