New Z06... 12.0 in the quarter
#21
It's going to take a very skilled driver to get a Z into the 11's on a street tire, irregardless of the HP. Actually the more the HP, the more difficult it becomes. It becomes a precarious balancing act between maximum acceleration and just spinning your tires, and you have to hold that point through all 4 gears.
Case and point, remember November's Car and Driver's test with the 427 TT Lingenfelter? On street tires, they couldn't get anything better than an 11.6!
That's a Vette with 800 Hp to the rear!
It's not how much power you make, but how much of it you can put down to the ground.
D/R's are going to need a skilled driver to touch the 10's.
An E/T Street should make it a little easier.

Very good point.

I think its definetely possible the new Z06 will run 11's or maybe even high 10, a couple months ago I was at E-Town, imports vs. domestics. There was a guy there with a brand new yellow C6, still had temp plates. The cun ran a mid 12, now if the new Z06 has 500hp plus like they say it could definetly run an 11 possibly a 10.

Now way will it run 9's with a filter-even if John Force was driving it. Just look at all the C5Z06's like Brent from Cartek. I think the best he went is 10.40's@131 and that's a 500RWHP which equates to around 575 horsepower. Plus the 02Z's are lighter. Don't forget that independant rear does not like to get launched hard either. Hell I ran 11.60@118 with my 02 stock but after that every little bit got harder and breakage was crazy-2 rear ends and 2 trannies-almost 20G in parts labour and clutches. The New Z will be alot faster and they did beef up the tranny and rear but it was never designed to be drag car. Don't forget the new TQ management is even less forgiving to drag racing than ever before. It should run 11.50's@124 on radials with a good driver and dip into the tens with a tire. BUT that's another issue-I don't know what size they upgraded the brakes too but I sure hope 17's or better yet 16's will fit in the back. I'm not even sure if skinnies will even fit up front? One thing I guarantee is that chev will have more power on tap for the future with that motor-it's just the tip of the iceberg. That sucker should make 600rwhp with just a cam and headers! I can't wait to buy one-anyone want to buy a slightly used 02Z06?

I think in decent conditions, and with a decent track the car can run 10's. I've gone 11.60's with 100 less HP, and with more weight. The new Z06 will be lighter than the current car.
