EuroCobra (and everyone else), stock vs stock the for GT appears to put down more power than the 06 Z06...but dollar for dollar, the Z06 KILLS the GT outright and there is no-one on earth that can deny that.

I personally like the thought of owning a NA small block 427 (Chevrolet Heritage of the Corvette 427 is significant to me). I think the interior of the Z06 will be better than the GT. I don't know if it will out perform the GT but I am sure they will be close. I know the GT did extremely well in a road course against some foreign exotics.
I just want to know if they are going to be selling the LS7 as a crate engine like they do LS1's and LS6's. I would consider that...

Funny thing about this thread..., it sounds a lot like the Cobra vs Z-06 threads where the Cobra owners are crowing about more bang for the buck and the Z guys are talking about quality and road course manners. Both are SICK ASSED cars! I wouldn't throw either one outta the bed for eatin' crackers, would you?

I read most of the post, and here's what I think:
I might be able to afford a 06 Z06 at some point, I certainly cant afford a ford GT, especially with the markup.
I think in stock form the 06 Z06 is going to be putting down 470rwhp range -- I really dont see how it could be much less. With a few mods 550rwhp should be easy. It will be very fast and handle very well, BUT
The ford GT is about 560rwhp stock, and with some mods is 700rwhp. It is heavier by 300 pounds or so, but in straight line acceleation stock vs. stock or modified vs. modified I cant see how it wont be faster than the z06.
Realistically, it is similar to the cobra vs. zo6 comparison, or the camaro vs. vette comparison, the high end stereo argument, the high end watch picture, etc... -- you will get 90% of the performance, maybe more, the extra 10% and the prestige is what you pay a lot of money for.

Hell, I have a Mustang GT in my driveway and I would WAY rather have the Z06. I don't like the retro looks and gull-wing doors of the GT, but I do like how it is taking the fight to the Euro-xotics. Good on Ford for releasing a magnificent car, but the looks and price don't do it for me. I'd take the new Z06 in black with a wet 150-shot...

I think the new ZO6-6 will be awesome but I think it will have a problem with a GT40 which will run over 200 MPH. Ford also has the room and it is rumored to put a V10 in the GT after the first year or two. 360's are I have run quite a few at track events with my beat up 99 and put them away down the straights and it hte corners. Mid engine will be great as a road car.

WEIGHT! Everyone forgets about it. The Ford is 400 lbs heavier than the Z06 and in racing that is everything. I have an 02 Z06 and an 03 cobra. My cobra puts out over 500 rwhp and the vette does about 360. I have put $ 7,000 in cobra and they are close in a drag race but the vette blows the ford away on a road course and that is with the mustangs suspension and brakes modified. Even with a 100 hp advantage I do not think the Gt would stay with the new Zo6 on a course with cornering.
