Corvette fever indicates cam duration is 230/211 . A very mild cam if correct

screw the stock cam..that 427 with 2.2 intake valves needs a BIG cam....240-250 duration and about 630 lift would be the right stick....that new Z06 with just a cam change, tuning, air intake, underdrive pulley will be nasty, probably be about 500 rwhp I bet...

Wonder how much the LS7 is going to be as a crate motor???

actually the thought is that they're going to be 'under-rating' this new motor, so when they say 500hp @ fw, it very well could be getting close to 500hp @ rw. w/a cam swap from something so mild as that, in a motor that large, i'd be lookin for more than just a mere 30 horses. ****....you see 60 horses from the more radical cams in 346ci blocks. i'd expect to see similar results in a 427ci.

My thinking exactly. When I first saw the horsepower was rated at 6200 rpm I knew something was odd... with all the dollars spent on an ultralight rotating assembly and valve gear 6200 is not very high. I guess gm wants a good idle and longgevity so they are making power with the heads. Sure will be an easy 100 hp with headers and cam.

I saw the new Z06 at Detriot,,,,the exhaust is awsome, you wont get much of any hp gain with headers and complete exhaust on that car...the manifolds look like wide shorty headers, the exhaust is 3" all the way back, big ol' mufflers (they electonically "open up" at 3500 rpm)...The exhaust has a H pipe in it, it is just like an aftermarket NICE exhaust....I bet cam swaps will get 40 rwhp, and tuning will get quite a bit as well....its just an awsome piece....cant wait to see the cost of this as a crate motor...

I think a well designed longtube header will still help unleash a few extra ponies.

I also think many will be suprised by just how small of a cam is in this engine from the factory. Remember the rocker ratio has been increased to 1.8 to 1 so I think the cam will be relatively small duration since meeting emmision and gas milage requirements is important to the General.

Since emissions and Gas milage isn't quite as important to some of us, taking advantage of these new good flowing heads adding 100 or more HP will be easy

I dont see those duration #'s at the top of the thread being true, every GM cam has a split that is baised to the exhaust.

I agree...Vette Fever has the numbers reversed...should be 200 on the intake.

The 230 is likely the intake. The 230/211 will allow to run a good amount
of intake duration whle keeping emissions down.

The LT header will kill these beautiful exhaust manifolds. While CLOSE to a shorty, and I'm sure they keep underhood noise down they are still a manifold.

The rest of the system is great. LT header will unleash another 20rwhp easy.

The head is basically a C5R head that has street friendliness built into it. Did they already quote flows of 370CFM? I doubt GM would put a 2.2" intake valve and put an insufficient port beind it. With porting this
probably goes to 400-430CFM.

With a good cam, LT's and tuning this is one that makes more than the older stuff.

There was a C5R 434 that did 680rwhp@7200 and 540rwtq@5000.

This motor will do at or close to 600rwhp while keeping a band where RWTQ is greater than any 346 at any point on the graph.

With head porting, solid roller it will do 650rwhp.

Default 211/230 and .593/.588 According to Popular Hot Rodding

I just received my April 2005 edition of Popular Hot Rodding. They have a chart comparing the Ls1, '01 LS6, LS6/LS2, and LS7 cams.

It has seven pages of great pictures and in depth technical information.

Quick Reply: LS7 cam specs?
