Default The LS4

GMHTP had a small article about the LS4 engine that is suppose to be in FWD Monte Carlo SS, Impala SS, and the GTP. Pretty interesting Gen IV engine. Offset water pump, shortened crankshaft for FWD engine compartment, DOD. The Intake manifold also looked completely different from current designs. It is 303 HP 5.3. Not exactly breaking news, but I saw this engine awhile ago at the autoshow earlier this year, and they didn't tell you jack about it. I just put a name to it today.

Hmm... they better not make the new Camaro FWD (if/when they make one), or I think every current F-Body owner would riot on GM's headquarters and burn them all to death

I think they should squeeze the LS4 into that stupid *** Cobalt, NOW that my friends would be Super Sport!!

^ only if the cobalt retained its super charger

i dunno man, reade that article in the lounge, it says GM dumped the f-body mainly because of their agreement with canada, and once the old factory's land is sold they have a gree light to start producing somewhere else

Yeah I read that article, kind of sad... So who wants to go protest/riot in front of GM for an LS2 Camaro with a forged bottom end and a twin screw blower or turbo?

ive heard that there almost certainly will be a rwd camaro round 07. because companies have been bidding on building restriaints, seats, etc.
Edit: aparently the camaro will share the same platformm as the gto, monte, and all those others but only the platform.

When I saw the LS4 at the SEMA show it had 243 casting heads. Are those not the LS6 head castings?

Yes, the LS4 has the really good cylinder heads, just like all future Gen IV engines (except ZO6). Expect big time torque management because of weak trannies and FWD. If you can work around those things, the cars ought to be a hoot to drive.

Yes, he is mistaken, but on GMs future vehicle list the GP will be built on the Zeta platform, that is RWD, and with an LS4 in it it will be a GREAT family grocery getter.

From what I heard the new GP, Monte and GTO will be rear drive coming out 2007 or 2008. Rumor has it that it will have a new full frame tubular race car like chassis made out of carbon fiber. 3 times stronger than steel and lighter. Will have to wait and see on this one?

So ferrari thinks that CF chassis are too expensive for all but it's absolute top of the line model $600,000 enzo and yet GM is going to make one for a passenger car that sells for under 40k?

Right............

How does this motor compare to the 5.3 truck motor? Or does it not really at all?
