Default What heads on LS2 402????

Im curious about what heads you guys would reccomend for a mild 402. Cost is an issue, and this is a daily driver so I dont need anything crazy. For now I plan on running an LS6 intake with a ported and polished TB in an effort to minimize cost (can always be changed later). So what heads would be in keeping with my theme of performance on a budget?? Also, if the heads are CNCd, does it matter whether they're LS1 or LS6 heads?? Any cam reccomendations would also be appriciated

I am putting PP stage 3 2.08/1.60 with 64 cc chambers on my 402. I have disassembled heads and am cleaning up port work. I will be using a large cam. Many do not like the large port volume...aprox 245 cc...of the patriot heads. I think low rpm flow is overated on a large cubic inch engine in a light car. I want flow at high rpms. Good luck.

Actually, our intake ports are approx. 232cc. Our older port design was the larger 244-245, but we changed that design around september of last year.

We have sold alot of 402's and most of our customers are going with AFR. The AFR cylinder heads when purchased with our 402 short block are very reasonable. PM or email me for any cylinder head pricing!!

Gunnar,

Mine measured 245. I only checked one port. Maybe I made a mistake. I am curious about your new ls head casting.

Don't forget that whatever you use, you will need about 75-76 ccs chamber volume for a reasonable hi 10s to 1 CR.

If you go with dished pistons you can use a small chambered head.....60-63 ccs.

If flat tops you must use 6.0 L or 225s in the bigger chamber.

I went with the big chambered 6.0L heads from TEA. Love them.

Enjoy, it is worth every penny and more.

Perry is correct! We have been trying to build all of our motors to be 10.5 to 11.1. This is working very well in most street strip aplications.
With our -14cc pistons, .040 thick gasket (Cometic), and a 66cc chamber your compression should be about 10.4 to 1. Keep in mind most LS1,LS6, LS2's pistons are out of the hole. Our 402 is +.007 out, and that will play a big part in compression. Out of all the heads we have on the shelf the AFR 205's and the GMPP CNC ported LS6 heads are the best bang for the buck!
