Default 3 valve heads?

Hi everyone. I tried doing a search for this, but it seems that currently there is a problem with the search engine or something, so I figured I would just ask.

What happened with the 3v heads that were originally supposed to go on this car? At first I remember hearing a long time ago that they would be on all the Gen IV engines, and then later on it was said they would at least be on the ls7s. I remember seeing pictures of them as well. What happened to the R&D behind these heads, and why weren't they used? Anyone have any links to any pictures or articles on the heads?

I would they would make a great head if the aftermarket got a hold of the design, and there weren't any problems with them that I am not aware of. They should just bolt up to any lsX engine as well, at least if I am remembering correct, because the bolt patterns were the same, and the two intake valves were only controlled with one pushrod.

They just plain did not work correctly the head design they have out performed them. No need to fix a good thing.

Thats interesting. I had heard they were working on 3v heads for the v6 as well. Does that mean this are dropped too?

That is very interesting. I would like to know where you obtained that information.

THe problem with the 3V's the way GM designed them was they had too many moving parts
and RPM would be limited.

The 2V C5R based heads do enough,./

I'm thinking that, assuming GM is still working on the 3-valve head, it will be for truck use. Take a look at the pic... it is a truck intake manifold...

Hmmm, I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that Mr. 3valGenIv has some inside knowledge that he's not sharing... Am I off base?

Or is an internet troll and there are many of them j/k. It really is hard to beat a big port 2v design for a big cube engine, and keep it 1) small / compact, 2) cost effective, 3) simple to work on 4) interchangable parts. That being said, the big big big cube engines that you'd find on WWII Fighter Aircraft engines (well, the V-12 and v-16 stuff, not those wicked cool and hard to understand radial engines like the P&W 2800) used DOHC deisgns. But when you have cylinders the size of the econo size coffee cans, a huge centrifical supercharger, and the need to pack as much air in @ alt. as possible (46,000 feet sometimes) you need all the valve area that you can get. Then again, I'm sure I don't need to tell Fulton 1 this, if the name implies what I think it does

dont forget it valve "curtain" area that makes the diffrence, not the area of the valve! a bigger valve will give you a larger curtain area, but not as much as 2 smaller vavles will!!!
