It'll be awhile before I get a built motor underneath it. I may see what it will do for my stock motor though.

I tried fitting it up this weekend, with mixed results. The flange from the passenger side tumpet assembly seed to hit a lip on my firewall. The good news is that seems to be the only real hangup

For those that are curious, there are pictures here

There's some more descriptive posts over at torquecentral that are more RX7 specific if anyone is curious.

Looks good. What are you gunna run for filters? How is the throttle linkage gunna turn out? The long vacum line coming off the back looks like it might interfere on an F-body. Sucks that they don't have them to test fit in Aussie.

I'll build my own pods. Or I might give each trumpet it's own filter and duct cold air to them.

My car won't be up and running any time soon. Anyone local (Vette or F-body) that wants to swing by and try a test fit is more than welcome. Just drop me a PM.

We have 1 guy who has fitted it to a C5. There was some interference with the cowl (which was trimmed) and the left air-pod needed modifying to fit around the power steering reservoir. I will try & find the photos (he is based in Germany!).

It only uses as much as it needs to create the relevant power ... it is not much different (if at all) than the standard manifold for cruising ... the amount of fuel used is almost directly proportional to the gains.
This is exactly what I had in mind for a 427 LS2-based engine I'm doing design consultation on for a Z06 road racer. As far as the price, considering that a set of Alcon brakes, which make the car go slow, rather than fast, goes for ~ $CAN 20,000, the Harrop looks like a bargain! The Dynomation engine simulation program I am using is an excellent tool, but it needs a lot of input data. Could you perhaps post the runner length from the air bell to the head surface or valve and if possible the effective taper angle (or the I.D. of the bell)? BTW, even though 55 mm sounds huge for 8 butterflies, the 3.0 Litre Maserati 4 cylinder used 2 -58 mm Weber 2 barrels in the fifties. In fact, if the minimum cross section area in the C5R port is say 2.6 sq. in., the butterfly is 12" upstream and the runner taper is 1.5 to 2 degrees (a common range), then its diameter would be 62 to 67 mm; so when you catch up on orders, it might be worthwhile to experiment with some even bigger ones...

PS: Don't know how many guys on the Forum are aware that an IR system has a TON better driveability with a big cam than a common TB one. With a single plenum/TB, under low throttle/high vacuum conditions, when a piston begins its intake stroke, instead of drawing fresh air past its butterfly, the plenum vacuum instead pulls exhaust back through the cylinder, contaminating the charge and causing rough running and calibration challenges.
Many years ago we fitted my pal's road race Camaro with a 48 Weber IR system in place of a single 850 Holley, and at low speed you would have sworn someone had swapped in a 'grocery getter' cam!

C$20,000 !!??!!
Maybe you should talk to us about some brakes. We just did some Monster 6-piston/4-piston units for a Corvette and they were ~US$6,500.

From the ram-tube "taper" start to the back of the valve is approx 403mm. The taper will depend on the port & valve

The limitation is the bore spacing. Unless we make "oval" throttle plates or vertically offset the runners, it is a bit tricky to get less than 1/2 the cylinder bore offset.

Feel free to email me on ken@harrop.com.au

HOLY SHIIIIIITTTT!!!

I was saving my soul for an LS7 Z06, but since GM said they wouldn't take them for payment (not worth enough, I guess), I wonder if Harrop will take one as a trade? I had never even heard of these things until this post!

Any F-bodies running these? Would a cowl hood help or work well with one?

Anyone done a twin turbo set up with this yet?

Oh, and Ken, I suppose I could be talked into trading you my 94 Z for a set up, if you asked really, really nicely...

I was just thinkng the same thing... how well would this work on a TT??? Any real gains to be had with FI? Are the air boxes pressure friendly?

Please PM me a price for use with a TT 02 Z06.

Yes, at the moment, Wilwoods for around that $ range are the leading contender, but our learning curve on what's available is obviously still pretty steep!

Great, sounds just about what we're after for the 2nd and 3rd pressure pulse tune points.

Good point; there is that little matter of squeezing the opposite side runner between two butterflies without raising the overall height. Good thing the LSx engines don't use paired runners like the older SBCs!

Feel free to email me on ken@harrop.com.au
We'll have our next team meeting in the next couple of days, hopefully will be in touch shortly.

I don't think I will be able to buy an LS7 minus the intake manifold/throttle body & and controller/injectors/fuel rails and pressure regulator/beauty covers/camshaft/pushrods/exhaust manifolds, so my first and foremost question is, "Are there any parts centers that I could sell these 100% unused components back to?"

I am not interested in using these components, and don't want them.

My second question is, "Will the C6R velocity stack injection/induction manifold become available anytime soon after the crate LS7?"

All comments and questions are welcome. I would appreciate any info (preferably with sources if possible) that I can get on these topics.

Here's some pictures of the C5-R intake for you guys. I'm not even allowed to take pictures of the LS7.R so good luck.

Where is this engine located and when are the security guard shift changes?

On the harop, that "thing" in the middle is just a plate, it looks like plenums mount
to each side.

This intake looks like flow is picked up through the head with the addition of it or if dropped, by the smallest amount.

We've considered a CF VC for sale to the public. If GM would let us, I wonder if there would be a market for it. Obviously the price would be much lower than that if they were sold in high volume.

Correct, if you look at the underside shot of the harrop, you can see that a section of the plenum is cast into the main body where you can draw a vaccum signal from for the map sensor, etc...which feeds out the back. The IR trumpets then bolt to this. Its still an IR all the way to the head.

This intake looks like flow is picked up through the head with the addition of it or if dropped, by the smallest amount.
As has been stated abve you normally look at about a 5^ taper on the cylinder port. In both systems there is going to be some minor restriction over exposing the intake port to just the outside air, but again, it isn't going to be bad.

The benefits of the IR system are covered here:

https://ls1tech.com/forums/showpost....&postcount=293

The independent runner stuff with the small independent throttles before each port with the constantly pressurized near 100 kpa "mega plenum of the world" above those same little throttle bodies are just less affected by the exhaust reversion that affects a plenum car worse since the whole intake system on these setups is at very low pressure and the exhaust is at such a higher pressure. The exhaust reversion can and does fill up the whole plenum behind the central TB or carb and the whole runner of each cylinder with exhaust diluted air that causes the repeated and erratic misfiring that we hear as the cool loping sound some people love so much.

With enough overlap the IR systems will also lope too and turn black under those cute little throttle bodies from idling with all the same vacuum under them when they are closed and idling but they have less of the total runner to become as contaminated since the higher pressure is close at hand right above them and in the rest of the runner. You will sometimes, with really big cams in these systems see the exhaust and regular reversion in the form of standoff above the runners with some of them at lower engine speeds.

Also when you crack the throttle instead of an entire manifold plenum having to pressurize up slowly instead, now the port sees full atmosheric pressure and density basically almost instantaneously so the throttle response is WAY better. In fact some people need a progressive linkage or it's too jerky for them! Also just realize that Australians ARE crazy and they all drive cars with blowers and NOS and have mohawks. They also like cubic inches in a lot of their racing and RWD but that's finally coming back to the USA too as people here have had their fill of the FWD crap.
