Default Pulling motor out top, drop tranny first or no?

I'm prepping the car today to pull the motor. Is it possible to pull the motor/tranny out together or should I unbolt the tranny and leave it sitting on the ground?

if this in the Fbod and you are dead set on going out the top, then yes it's possible and a hella lot easier then trying to seperate the two in the car. If you can swing it though, i would go out the bottom. I've done both and out the bottom is much better IMO.

I pulled mine out from the top leaving the trans (M6) in place. Had to pull the intake to access that bastard upper bolt, but she came out with no additional problems. You don't have to drop the trans to the floor or make any additional disconnections - at least on the M6. To support it once the motor came out, I rested the front of the trans across a 1x4 which is held up by a tie down using the holes used to ship the cars from the plant located under the driver and passenger side floor. Cranked her down (or up, in this case). Crawl under there and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Question for you guys pulling motors from the top. I pulled mine from the top also but it had now heads or intake on it. I have removed a portion of my cowl to fit my single plane sb2 carb manifold. Can I put my motor back in with the heads on it? It seems as though it would work just fine going in from the top with the heads on. Anyone else put the motor back in the car from the top with the heads on it? Thanks.

It would surely be nice to setup the motor with the heads and valve train assembled why on an engine stand verses in the car.

I just pulled mine from the top with the heads on. Took off the intake and removed the radiator. Moved AC condesor out of the way and had plenty of room. So......I'm sure it will go back in without a problem.

I don't know why everyone wants to drop it from the bottom. Maybe it's because I've dropped more A4 trannies than I care to remember but I didn't think it was too bad. That and I can still roll the car around since the Kmember is and wheels are on.
