Default LS7 Operation Requirements

Hi All,

Having not had an LSx engine, I am wondering about some of the requirements to keep it running:

Coolant - There was some GM orange stuff in the crate plastic bag. Is that really the best available for the LS7? It came with orange, but I have been running the green stuff in my '96 LT-1 forever. Also, how much coolant is actually in the engine? (not lines and rad)

Oil - What directions does the oil flow on the pump ports? How much oil is in the engine? (not lines and sump) And, what should the oil pressure be at idle and at red line?

Fuel - Haven't purchased a pump or regulator. What pressure and GPM is needed for WOT?

Any other info?

Thanks,
-- Scott

you don't want to run green coolant, you want dex-cool (orange) or toyota super long life coolant (premixed)

Okay, orange it is. I just have to get the image out of my head that Dex-Cool isn't good stuff.

I've ran the green coolant for over 4 years with zero issues.

That's a great site. Thanks, I will be spending some time there. Now, what about the quantity of oil in the tank and lines?

8 quarts for the total system

Yes, but I don't think I can use the stock length hoses and maybe not the stock tank. So, I am trying to isolate the quantity of oil in the engine (without lines and tank). Considering that the total is 8 (with filter), maybe three in the tank, one in the lines, one in the filter and three circulating in the engine?

The orange causes electorlysis. Stick with the green.

...one of the primary points of dexcool was to minimize electrolysis. There are hundreds of threads debating dexcool vs. green though.

If you use dexcool CORRECTLY, you'll be fine. I've got 140K miles on one change of dexcool in my GTP with 0 issues, and I've had it totally apart.

I'm looking forward to seeing your project progress, looks to be a heck of a toy.

Okay, so it's a toss-up...a matter of preference. I have been running green in all of my cars and haven't had any issues. Water pump at 150k on the LT1. But, that's beyond the call of duty...right? Orange probably works just as well. Maybe it's time for a change in color. Although, I am sure I have 3-4 gallons of green on the shelf. We'll see how I feel when it's time to fill'er up.

Thanks, digitalsolo. Yes, it should be some kind-a-fun! I will post my build site when it gets rolling...
