Default LS2 402 vs LS1 stroked??

Hi Folks
I want to increase the cubes on my SS. The LS2 402 short block looks like the way to go but in the past I remember there are issues with the LS1 sensor locations vs the LS2.
I have a couple of question – has that problem been solved? What would you have to do to use the LS2 block in a LS1 configuration?
If the LS2 is too hard to do, converting my LS1 to a 383 or 402 does not sound to hard but it cost almost as much as the LS2 block. The question is 383 or 402? I know cubes are king but I remember somebody did not like the stroke to bore ratio.
Thanks
Bill

PS: what I would like to do is put in the new LS7.

The sensor issue for the LS2 402 has been worked out. Racetronix and SDPC both offer plug n play sensors to adapt the LS1 PCM's to work with the LS2 block. The stroke to bore ratio for the 402 is square so I can't see why that would be a problem. The actual size of the LS2 block is the same as a LS1, so it's an exact fit. I almost went with a 383 but decided to go with the LS2 402 for about the same price and with added cubes.

i have an ls1 402 (iron block) i love it... i would have rather have gone with the ls2 block though. so i'd say go for it.

on a side note - a buddy of mine has a forged 382 stroker w/ a relatively mild 232/234 112 cam and PP stg 2 ls6 heads, ls6 intake and traps at 120 with a 3680 raceweight and HORRIBLE 60' times. something in the 2+ second range. so that seems to be working very well for him. i can't wait til he gets some tires, and a converter for that thing.

I was considering the 402 but went 383 instead. I dont think you could go wrong either way other than $$$$$ difference.

What was the cost difference. I am shopping the 2 options as we speak and need to make up my mind ASAP.

I'm curious about this swap, too. Can you give some more details regarding the sensor issues for the LS2 fitted in a 1998-2002 F-Body? I know of the cam sensor needing to be relocated, but I thought that the knock sensors would not work with the LS1 computer. Also, the sensors fitted on the side of the block would rule out the use of headers (they hit??). Please advise, and if possible, pictures are always great!! Thank you!!

Hi Folks
Thanks for the inputs - I was planning on getting a LS2 short block and using all my LS1 equipment. reading the responses, that appears to work ( I think) and I looked at the Sensor cables offered by Racetronix - they appear to extend the wiring for the sensor but I think they expect you to use the long block in that case. Am I missing something?
thanks
Bill

I have owned both a 383stroker and a 402. The 402 ran significantly stronger.

I am in the same question.. on a forged future..

383 and 402s are kinda same priced.. but for those of us, that dont have aftermarket heads or small bore heads, a 402 will need new heads.. that adds money to the ecuation...

Everything ls1 will work on the ls2, just have to use the wiring harness

you don't need new heads to run a bigger bore.
