Default LS6 cam in LS1 question

If I put LS6 cam/lifters/springs in a 2000 LS1 engine, do I need to re-tune? This is for my off-road sandrail with a Street & Perofrmance moded ECU. I know it will probably help, but will my ECU compensate enough to not need the re-tune?

Can I still use the stock LS1 pushrods?

What if I went to a LS6 intake? Re-tune????

You would definitely want to tune it. You could use the stock pushrods, but you may as well upgrade to some hardened ones, your stock lifters would be fine.

I ran a 02 LS6 cam in my car for 2 years on the stock tune and it ran perfect with no problems. If the ECU is tuned for a stock LS1 cam, it will work fine with the LS6 cam. Tuning will help (especially bumping the shift points and rev limiter up). Stock pushrods and lifters are fine. I would search for a used cam/springs to save $$$. I got mine used for $150.

Thanks for the replys. I already have my rev limit set to 6200. Seems too soon to find used cam/spriongs.

actually you need a 7.425 length pushrods for the ls6 if you have stock heads to take full advantage of it. I have my rev limiter set at 6600, and as far as a tune, after logging on hptuners, there wasn't much that needed to be messed with, you should be fine

My car picked up alot from a tune ( 3 tenths and 3.5 mph) over the "mostly" stock tune (limiter moved, codes.. etc)

Why would I need 7.425" pushrods? What length are stock ones?

You dont need the custom length 7.425. Stock 7.4 are more than fine.

the base circle on the LS6 cam is smaller, although.. I've had no problems with the stock length.

Any more word on the base circle size of the LS6 cam (the need to run a 7.425 inch pushrod)

It's only .025" difference. The thickness of a thumbnail. That's what hydraulic lifters are for.
