Default what happened

I went to start the car in the morning and #8 rod came through the block and took a few others with it. I had no warning, the engine sat all night and was running fine when I turned it off that night. Any ideas..

It may be hard to tell now but was there any fluid in the cylinder? You may have had a leaky head gasket add water to the cylinder. All you need is a half cup - enough to take up the space of the combustion chamber. Then when the cyclinder comes us to TDC the water becomes a solid. You can't do it on the starter but if another cylinder fires first there is more than enough force to break a rod. If you running nitrous you may have had a leaky fuel solenoid do the same thing if you are using a supplemental fuel system.

There was no presence of water in the cylinders and I have never ran nitrous through the motor. This was only a cam only car with 54K miles. The thing is the day before, the valve seals were changed and so was the oil and filter. All the valves were still up when the valve covers were pulled for inspection. Besides I drove the car 30 miles to get home after the seals were changed and the car never showed any signs of the things to come the next morning.

Maybe one of the keepers was not seated and you dropped a valve?

Could have been a fuel injector that stuck open, or the PCM kept it grounded for some reason. Either way, figure out what happened beofre you put a new engine in there. And, yes, the starter has more than enough power to bend/break a rod. Seen it with my own eyes. Let us know what you find.
