Default Katech-built LS7 makes 655hp 579ft/lbs NA!

Katech LS7 shortblocks with forged pistons used by UMI Racing to make 655 hp & 579 ft-lb torque. It used Katech 12:1 forged pistons and high-modulus rod bushings. Camshaft used TBA. It was run with UMI Racing Technology tunable Mefi 4B ECU, Throttle Body and dry sump adapter.

...more to come as other camshafts are tested.

It looks to be an engine dyno from the text printout...from what I've seen before. Nice numbers!

That looks awesome, can't wait to see what that set-up would do in a Z06.

I don't think it's out of the question. For now I don't think there are any plans to touch the heads. They are very nice from the factory. Probably later on as things get more refined they'll look into possible gains on the exhaust port.

Jason,

I have a few questions about the data shown on the dyno sheet:

1) How do you maintain 121 to 125 degree F oil temperature?

2) Why did you hold the oil temperature so low when you would make better power if the oil temp were in the 180 to 200 degree F range?

3) Why is the oil pressure so high?

4) What octane fuel was used for this dyno run?

.

Headers - 1 3/4 stepped to 1 7/8, 4 into 1
Oil Temp - Temp was not reading.
Oil Pressure - We are running 15W-50 Mobil. Plus, these things have high pressure to begin. It is not uncommon to see 75-90 lbs at idle cold with this oil.

UMI built the top end so maybe Mark can confirm but I think they were both production.

Numbers pretty much flattened at 6300 RPM even though peak is at 6800.

I wonder if this is a restriction, or simply as much as this camshaft allows.

For the intake, mentions something about a throttle body. Is it a 8 runner IR intake or the LS7 intake mani?

1 3/4" to 1 7/8" step sounds great.

My guess is this is still a hydraulic roller camshaft with high but not very high duration numbers, IE - prolly 235-240@.05" on the intake side.

700HP will prolly be crossed with the LS7 intake.

Anyone flown a LS7 intake by itself? With the heads?

The 575 TQ extrapolates to 505rwtq 6speed. Will we see more? 530-540rwtq?

Pretty cool stuff... IIRC, LG made similar numbers (if a 15% driveline loss is accurate) on their test mule.

Kickass!!
