Tuning a LS2
what are you using to tune it?
I can't find anything but the diablo.
Russ
A lot of people are tuning them LS2 Edit is out, and I have been told HPTuners is out, or close. Some of us use our own stuff. I just finished tuning the prototype Procharged LS7 for ATI. They are supposed to pick it up today.
I use Tunercat for tuning and program with my Tech2. I have an '06 SS Trailblazer coming in for dyno work tomorow morning.
Good luck, Ed
LS2edit is still being tweaked with new stuff, HPtuning is still being finalized...
05 LS2 programs and 06 LS2 programs are slightly different on the OBD end from what I've heard and read up on...well for the GTO's anyway.
Codes are still being unlocked/debug'd and tested.
I'm Set'n hear looking at upgrad'n a 05 GTO, start'n with a top end swap out.
I'm Look'n at RHS heads based on ET 225's with large exhaust valves -vs- waiting on L92 heads and a new manifold -vs- going with AFR 225's to many choices and all of them are good choices. (SSW or Kooks for the headers and a nice Xpipe for breathing to back it up).
Editing is also up in the air...
Diablo's will give you basic adjustments but not specific tweaking.
HPtuning and LS2Edit will give you a more specific tune to your layout but they are both still being adjusted and finalized.
What would be nice is to be able to turn on the DOD (displacement on demand) for a 05/06 LS2 to increase fuel efficency (while cruising or being stuck in traffic), and still have WOT performance of a tuned and built up LS2 (yep I'm dreaming again)
That will be an engineering marvel that could set all of the tuning programs apart (if someone figures it out).
I have a feeling the LS2 is going to be a niche market motor with only 2 to 3 years of production.
The L92 design being a true Gen IV design and being mass produced for the truck line. This design will probably end up in the new GTO, Camaro and a Vette. It will probably end up being the LS3... with new and improved DOD and VVT.
The LS2 is really a half bread of Gen III head designs with Gen IV block (knock sensors and electronic throttle body). Does not have Gen IV's better head design, DOD, or VVT. The LS2 is not mass produced for the SUV/truck line and is only found in a few vehicles. The LS2 is limited to Vette, GTO, SSR, and SS TB from 05 to maybe 07 (and You can probably pull the SSR and SS TB from LS2's list for 07's cause who'd want a LS2 at 400/400 -vs- a L92 at 419/435).
The L92/L76 design is a true Gen IV with DOD and VVT and a version is already slated for the Holden line of vehicles starting production in Feb 06 (due to Australia's new emissions standards).
It will go into mass production in the GM SUV line for Vortec6000 and Vortec 6200 power plants in 2007 (10 years after the first Gen III's were production for C5 Vette's).
We will probably see a LS3 based on either the 6.0L or the 6.2L variant put'n down 425 to 450hp (to match or surpase the 6.1 SRT Hemi@425 or the supercharged 5.4 GT 500@450 to 475).
The LS2 is like a Gen IV block with Gen III heads/manifold... way back machine comparison would be like a SBC 307 2 to 3 years before the SBC 327 became mainstay.
Now I've just gone totally off topic.
I was typing this up while working a ticket for a Slot system switch over.... pass the crack pipe please!
