SSR LS2 or Vette LS6???
or
A 2004 LS6 from a Corvette with the lower profile intake and the red FI covers.
My question is what are the differences???
Apparently the SSR LS2 puts out 405HP as does the LS6....are there any internal differences or are the two motors basically the same. Can I get the SSR LS2 and change the intake and accessory mounts and basically have an LS6 or are their big internal differences?
Any experienced/knowledgeable tuners please chime in!!!!
The LS2 has an electronic Throttle body, LS6 style heads with solid valves and the older LS6 style cam (385hp Z06 from 99 I think).
The LS2 also has a revised locations for the knock sensors and should have the newer computer (E38 or something like that).
The LS6 has a better manifold design and larger cam with hollow stem valves in the heads (which wouldn't matter if you plan on working the heads up and going with larger valves).
The LS6 manifold is a very high flowing manifold (better then the LS1 or LS2's) very very close to the F.A.S.T. LSX manifold performance wise.
The LS2 manifold is a 2 piece design which does not have the flow capabilities of the LS6 manifold (but can be ported out to match the LS6 manifold).
Cam's... Gen III SBC cam's fit either engine, same with the crank.
The LS6 was not spec'd for the GM 4L65 automatic transmission.
The LS2 is spec'd for the GM 4L65 transmission due to the Torque Management that is set up in the newer ECM.
Which ever you decide on remember to get the control module and get with painless wiring for a harness to connect the motor up when you drop it in the classic.
