Default LT1 to LS2 Questions?

Ok well this would be a huge project and cost some $ (and for the hell of it, let's jsut say this wouldn't be a big deal-$).
1) Is it possible?
2) If possible what would be necessary? i.e.-Tranny, oil pan, drive shaft, rearend, brackets, wiring harness, computer, ect...
3) Anything else?

Check the Street & Performance website. They have put a LSx into an Impala SS (LT-1) and they have some goodies to make the swap. I don't know what you are putting it in. Maybe they have something to help you.

You might also post this in the other section on "Conversions & Hybrids".

1) It is just as easy as an LS1/6 swap, only more expensive.
2) Everything that an LS1/6 swap requires, plus a throttle body, injectors, damper, oil pan, and some sensor extensions.
3) I used a TH350 (same as I used with my LT1) and there are issues with that, but the search has all of the basics covered. I bought a crate engine and came across a new alternator with brackets for cheap, used starter, used PS pump, used PS rack, used k-member, etc.

The hardest part is collecting the parts, by far. The swap is easy. It isn't a huge project, but if you start with an LS2 crate and have no sale-able parts from your LT1 (good heads, exhaust, valvetrain), you can spend close to $8000, and that doesn't include an exhaust system. I parted mine out (heads/cam 94 z28) and got about $3400 making my upgrade alot cheaper.

A very low miles LS2 shortblock just sold on ebay for under $2000, fwiw.

I'd be putting it into a LT1 Trans Am. I have an M6 in the car right now. I was looking at a crate motor from crateenginedepot.com .............. http://www.crateenginedepot.com/stor...FQY5OAodezqvFQ

gogogadget what did you do about the throttle body? Would it be better if I just bought a bare block and pieced things together? Where did you get the knock sensor, wiring harness, computer ect? you have a write up or anything like that? I just want to gather as much info as possibl before I spend a dime. If you know what I mean.

I used a Nick Williams 90mm TB. The knock sensor and other LS2 specific harnesses are available through Speartech, among others. I bought a harness and computer from a board member.

You will want to build one at this point I would imagine, since 2006+ crate engines will not work with LS1 electronics. Do a search (if it works) for "ls2 reluctor" and you will see what I mean. If you can get a 2005 with a 24 tooth crank reluctor (from a wrecked car) that might be better (although not "new").

No writeup, and I don't think I ever will. Hell, I only post when I am bored, can't sleep, or need to buy something.

Good luck.
