This is where they are on a factory crate LS2.
If you want to screw LS1 sensors into an LS2 you can open the threads out from M8 to M10 easily. They are blind female threaded bosses both sides with lots of meat.

You can also use any of the un-used engine mounting bracket holes...these are already the correct thread to take LS1 sensors. Dummy fit your headers and see which location suits best.

The big threaded hole that goes into the water jacket is where the block heater goes, like this (don't mind the motor plate or dry sump, just look at the brass thing):

Usaully there is just a big plug with a giant allen head in it; that's how it is on my LS7. The above pic is right on about the knocks, and there is a similar boss on the other side of the block.

That is where the crankshaft position sensor goes. If you've got the 24 tooth (pre-MY2006) reluctor wheel you'll need the black sensor.

98 has a 24 tooth. Unless it's a GM crate motor, I highly doubt it has the new wheel. You should just be able to use the one that's on your car.

And with ls1 knock sensors you will need to drill out the hole and retap them. They are a bigger thread.

Use the back motor mount holes. They don't they dont have to be taped (it screws right in). I put one on each side in the rear. The wire is close to the header but there is atleast a half inch. I brought my wire back towards the sensor after I plugged it in and zip tied it to the sensor. Then I routed it nicely down and around the back away from the headers. It's alot easier than taping that bottom hole. Also, I don't think the that SPDC extension is long enough to reach the bottom hole without ha ving to splice in more cable.
