bro, go with the LS2. its strong enough to handle that hp with no problem. & it saves like a hundred pounds too. i heard that you can over bore them up to .030 due to their sleeves being thicker than LS1 too, that would give ya 408 c.i.

If you're gonna drive it alot on the street, and enjoy a well balanced ride, go with the 402 LS2. The iron does make a difference in the feel of the car and driving.

You could just build a 408 ls2 FWIW. They go .030" over with no problems.

I think the iron block difference alone adds 65-70 pounds. at least that is what the difference was from ls1 to lq4/9. I don't see why it would be much different for the ls2 series blocks.

If your building it to last, 408 iron is the way to go. Not to say a LS2 can`t handle it. Just the iron block will take ANYTHING you throw at it. I spray, wanted the strength of the iron. Car drives fine with it, can`t even tell the differance!! Good luck with your choice!!

Thanks for all your info, its a very tuff choice. My bro has a all-wheel drive c3 sierra that he is building a 408 iron stroker with a kenne bell and a small shot of juice. He's right around a 12.9 with just the kenne bell and the stock bottom end 6.0 w/ heads and cam and meth, plus he's going to ad a ic also.So he knows he has to push alot more hp than me to keep up,so he went with the iron. But I'm leaning towards the 402 because I don't need as much with my T/a and an auto car,but knowing you can throw almost anything at the iron because we all know down the line next thing I want 1000 hp lol so I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks again.

700 rwhp through an A4. That's some serious power. Good luck.

Go with the 402 LS2. Though as said the thing you will have to worry about is your tranny, it won't last that long.

The iron block is much better like Beard said.

The LS2 is simply lighter but thats about it and maybe 70 pounds max. I ship them and the LS2 is heavier than an LS1 and neither is 100 pounds lighter than on iron block. HAHAHAHHAHA !!!

I will post some pictures of the core shift that is in many LS2 blocks. I can't believe anyone would be running .030 on these!

Seriously I thought they majorly SUCKED that GM couldn't do better than this and about half of them (LS2s) seem this way. The regular LS1s were never this bad?

go iron and offset some of the weight with a tubular k member, relocated battery etc.

Seriously I can see people noticing the weight in reality as we've had people driving an iron block car and all they noticed was the power.

It is a difference but it's in the middle of the car and low, so not even like moving the battery or anything as big as that. Maybe a tiny handling difference to an all out autcrosser or something is all I could see if that.

I'm not against the LS2 though! I just wouldn't bore one to 4.030! I do them too!

My next motor in a about a year and a half is an iron 408 with a procharger...etc, etc... going for 750 to 800 rear wheel hp/tq. The aluminium motors are great and all, but when you start doing crazy power output, your gonna need the strength of iron. The best statement I've ever heard on this site is build it once, build it right. If your looking for more than 600 HP/tq at the rear wheels, want to drive it regularly and be able to thrash it like a misbehaving crack *****, go iron block. With that level of power, the weight (80-100 lbs?) won't mean a thing unless you are seriously/competively racing it. Just my opinion.

The 4l80e will last longer than the 4l60 would but if u take it to the track every weekend i would go with a 400 or 350 Turbo

I agree with Racer, about boring the aluminum would prob not be the best, i can see the iron doing better cause i know if i was going that much on my ls2 it prob be hell for me cause something would break

If your planning on staying automatic, I'd go with a nicely built TH400. As for the block, for what it sounds you want to do, I'd go Iron.
