Default LS7 connecting rod

Who has had a good look at this rod? I'm thinking about getting a set and putting in some CARR bolts and using it in a quick revving Warhawk block 427. Couple those rods with a Magnum XL crank shaft and a set of light weight billet pistons....Hmmmm. Thoughts???

We are running 600-650hp with our rebushed LS7 rod with no problems. We have modified our LS1 rod bolt to fit the LS7 rod also. The factory bolts can only be torqued 3 times and they already get torqued twice at Wixom. We are still testing the bolt though.

You're probably looking a 3K for a set aftermarket vs. $700.00 for the factory piece.

Right now, I only use Carrillo <(great rod) but they are a little heavy. It would be nice if the factory rod with some CARR bolts would hold up to 800 HP... I'd like to try it but I don't want to wipe out a $4000.00 block just to find out.

What kind of rod bolt are you using?

I have a set of LS7 Ti rods I'll sell you for $550 with very little dyno time on them, perfect condition. I also can get ARP 2000 bolts for a good upgrade. Let me know if you need them. Thanks Dave

ls7 Ti rod part # 12586258 $78 at gmpartsdirect

What are the spec's? length/weight etc.

How about the LS7 crank part #12568820 can it be used in an ls1/lq9 iron 408?

Don't forget the shipping charges on gmpartsdirect. The Ti rods are really $766 a set shipped - $148 for shipping

LS7 crank is $814 shipped.

The crank has a longer snout for the dry sump setup, plus the crank pulley for the stock LS7 is for the Y body offset of coarse.

Isn't the reluctor wheel different?

Different from what? We're talking about assembling a bottom end.

Aftermarket has always used a heavier and longer than stock rod with their stroker kits. But then GM throws everyone a curve with this lighter and SHORTER 6.064" 427 titanium rod. Hell this new rod is shorter than the 6.098" LS1 rod.

Would it be possible to have a set of custom 4.00" stroke 383 or 402 pistons made to fit the shorter 6.067 LS7 rod or maybe even the LS1 rod?

even ff the LS7 crank snout is longer, you should still be able to bolt on a fbody balancer. Also with the different reluctor wheel, cant you just change some settings in HPtuners for the different reluctor wheel and just put the crank in a normal 6.0L/LS2 block using factory 6.0L/LS2 crank sensor? I would guess so.

Also on the rods, I just looked them up and they are $77 each. $616. If you call when you make the order they combine shipping (since it's charging you per rod) and wouldnt cost more than $25 for shipping. it would be definately worth buying some custom pistons (which would be no big deal) and have a nice little high rpm setup.

Pistons would not be a problem. <(Go custom) It's a better way to go anyway... You can have a set of light weight pistons to match those light weight rods... Killer rev engine with a magnum XL crank and a aluminum flywheel <(For us stick guys that is)

F-Body (or truck / SUV) balancer bolted to a crate LS7 crank with its longer snout will not line up with the accessories...

so you can get a full titanium rod for 77 bucks, that sounds awful cheap. i thought these rods were way higher than this. so why buy something like compstar or any other big name, titanium is stronger and lighter than steel right?
